I would like to see Willie hit Beltran second, maybe it takes pressure of him, with this long home-stand a good start is vital I think for him, fucking fans are all over him, has he had a hit yet?

I'm willing to give Carlos 20 games wherever wwsb sticks him. There were
people slitting their wrists on the radio today over this.

We're married to the guy for 5 more years after this, start praying and stop
booing is what I'm preachin'.

Oh no. ESPN broadcasters are Berman and Morgan.

Over/under for when I puncture my own eardrums: 5th inning.

ScarletKnight41
Apr 06 2006 07:14 PM

Pedro faces the minimum in the first - Vidro's single is erased by an inning ending double play.

7 pitches, 3 outs.

NICE.

Looking crappy with rows of empty seats behind the plate and black unis.

But the shiny two-tone helmets are the worst. So NFL. Actually today is all black but all shiny.

Japan had the right idea with matte finish domes in the WBC.

We oughta knock around Ortiz. Big Game.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but has the facial hair ban been officially lifted? I see lots of thin, neat goatees surfacing. Pedro needs some hair under there as the poor fella has no chin.

They're wearing black today. I guess after seeing the helmets a few times, I don't really mind them, but I still hate the black tops.

Edit: 2-tone helmets gone for the day. Still have the fish gills, but they're all black.

Mr. Wright singles in Beltran for the second run of the inning :)

Cliff pops up to end the inning. 2-0 Mets after one.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 06 2006 07:37 PM

That ball should have been caught. Hernandez covered a lot of ground but like yesterday fielding the throw seemed to slow up once he got near Nady.

Nady seemed to take his time getting over -- ball was in the air for ages.

Damn - a single by the pitcher Ortiz coupled with a Pedro throwing error ties the game 2-2.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 06 2006 07:42 PM

See? 2 runs score as a result, lineup turned over, everything.

It's the 2nd fucking inning. Pedro pitching and you're walking Brian F. Schneider.

Moronic.

ScarletKnight41
Apr 06 2006 07:44 PM

Watson, wearing Mr. Met's 00, strikes out to end the top of the second. 2-2 after one and a half.

Crappy D cost the lead.

Pedro looks great.

I take back everything I said about Willie. He's still a moron.

Why on earth would you EVER tell Pedro what to do in the 2nd inning of a game when you've got a 2-0 lead? Especially when he looks good?

Let the man do what he does, for Christ's sake.

Apr 06 2006 08:48 PM

After the homerun, the entire crowd is getting behind Pedro and cheering him on. Huge cheer after his strikeout following the home run.

So there's no racial motivation behind the boos that Beltran is hearing.

Most likely it's a lack of brain power motivating those jeers. Exhibit A: Joe Beningo agrees with the booing.

I stated here that my feeligns could be proven wrong. You have stated several times that anyone who doesn't agree with your feelings is delusional.

Why was Duaner Sanchez hitting there? Put in Diaz or Franco. If they get a hit, you could throw Julio out there in the 8th and it would be tough for even him to blow it.

5 relievers pitched yesterday. No off days until Monday. Victor pitching on Sunday, when the relievers will be most tired. Sanchez only pitched one inning, he could go 2 and then we only need one guy to end the game.

Joe Morgan makes a good point (for once) noting that Frank Robinson probably was saved the ejection because the umpires perhaps had not been handling things quite right (ie. no warning after Pedro hits Guillen).

Hey, I'd call 2-3 with a walk pretty darn good offensively.

LoDuca looks like he knows what he's doing at the plate. Not an easy out and pretty good bat control. I'd still rather have Beltran up there, but I can see where Willie's coming from. Of course, when LoDuca cools down, we'll see how I feel . . .

I absolutely love how when Guillen charged out with the bat, Pedro just stood there motionless staring at him.

How can he not get in your head?

Yancy Street Gang
Apr 07 2006 08:46 AM

I was thinking the same thing, chicken.

I didn't participate in the IGT because I watched the game on TiVo delay, but I wanted to post a few observations this morning, and that was one of them. Most pitchers react in some way when a batter approaches the mound. Pedro's motionless glare was very cool.

The whole Beltran homer thing made for good TV. As he was rounding the bases, something in his face led me to think he'd refuse a curtain call. (I remember George Foster refusing a curtain call once. I think it was a Sunday game in 1986 that I attended, where Foster hit 2 homers. And I do hope that there won't be too many more reasons to link Beltran and Foster!)

Anyway, I loved watching Franco talking to Beltran. I wish I was a better lip reader; I'm curious to know what he was saying. From body language, it looked like, "What the hell are you doing? How can you not go out there? Get out there!"

It occurs to me that when Willie Randolph is replaced, whenever that may be, his successor may already be in the Mets dugout.

It was a fun game to watch. I can only imagine how Frank Robinson felt after seeing his players get plunked time after time, and when a Met finally got hit, he and the pitcher get rejected. I seem to remember years ago there were rumors that the NBA referees where under orders to make calls in favor of the Knicks so that the league could have a strong healthy presence in New York. I wonder if something like this could start similar rumors about the Mets. Especially since Sanchez hit a batter after the warning was issued, and he wasn't ejected.

Also, finally, did I hear Keith Hernandez refer to Pedro's dwarf as a "monkey"? Our Keith isn't big on political correctness, is he?

Now I'll read through the IGT and see if everything I mentioned was already addressed.

]"Those pitches just got away. That pitch wasn't really that far in, except he leans over," Martinez said. "I think he overreacted a little bit, especially going out there with the bat. I can understand it if you're frustrated or mad or something. You want to charge, you charge. But don't bring your bat out there. I wasn't scared anyway."

Elster88
