H. Ramirez, SS
J. Hermida, RF
M. Cabrera, 3B
M. Jacobs, 1B
J. Willingham, LF
D. Uggla, 2B
M. Olivo, C
E. Reed, CF
J. Vargas, P

Fish move Willingham to LF to spare him from the rigours of C. Word is they're going to do this on a fairly regular basis to keep him fresh.

J. Reyes, SS
P. LoDuca, C
C. Beltran, CF
C. Delgado, 1B
D. Wright, 1B
C. Floyd, LF
X. Nady, RF
A. Hernandez, 2B
S. Trachsel, P

No surprises from skipper Willie.

SNY pre-game featured a nifty clip of Ralph Kiner & Bob Murhpy doing a promo commercial 2 weeks before the Mets innaugural season.

Sounds like Beltran got a nice reception for his first AB.

Rotblatt
Apr 07 2006 07:40 PM

CF Eric Reed just made an amazing catch of a long drive by Wright into the right-center gap.

Not only did he have to lay out to catch it but he got a great jump, took a good route and ran a long way. The equal of Hernandez's catch, IMO.

Mets still get on the board with a first-pitch double by Reyes, sac bunt by LoDuca, single up the middle by Beltran, HBP of Delgado, SB of 3rd by Beltran, sac fly by Wright. Floyd popped up to end the inning.

2-0 Mets going into the second.

The Fish should try and hit the ball to the left side.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 07 2006 07:46 PM

That was an awesome play by Reed. A double against most MLB outfielders.

That said, I've considered the Marlins and my conclusion is they could easily lose 110 games this year. The Mets really should account for 13 or 14 of them.

Jacobs homers!

I miss Jake but lets be honest we needed Delgado.

We'll see. Jacobs is trying to prove otherwise.

I'd like to see that catch and Swoboda's back to back. Reed's reminded me of Ron's.

Can you slug higher than a thousand?

Edgy DC
Apr 07 2006 08:42 PM

Hi, I'm Xavier Nady. Hell, yeah, you can slug higher than a thousand. Total bases over at-bats So if you start the season with a homer, you're slugging 4.000. Until somebody figures a way to get five bases in an at-bat, that is the highest you can slug. Me, I'm slugging 1.071. And I'm damn glad to meet you.

Is Marlin kosher? you're making me hungry...

Lets save some runs for tommorow (or Sunday when I'll be there.)

Rotblatt
Apr 07 2006 09:21 PM

We're looking pretty good tonight. Patient at bats, steady defense, good pitching--I could get to like this.

Trachs had the guppies flopping around in front of the plate. 6 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 K.

Pretty unusual line for Trachs.

Bradford in to pitch and Willingham and Uggla both ground out.

reyes 3-run homer makes it 9-1.
For Schaffer purposes i'm done here, alot of guys are going to deserve points tonight so i gotta give it to the guys who did something before the game was out of hand.

Hey! Stop jinxing us! Julio's coming in to pitch the eighth, so we're going to need every run we get . . .

Nymr83
Apr 07 2006 09:36 PM

Now THIS is a good situation to use Julio in. In fact I hope we get lots of opportunities to put him in 8-run games this year.

Nymr83
Apr 07 2006 09:43 PM

a WALK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

you've got an 8-run lead and you gave up a WALK????

throw the fuckin ball down the middle with a 3 ball count you putz!

Zvon
Apr 07 2006 09:44 PM

I like Jacobs goin yard, as long as we win big like we are.
Hope he hits another solo shot :)

Just got caught up on all the scorin and
Wright YAY!
Reyes YAY!
RBIs from Beltran & Delgado YAY!

I guess you got to give Julio the ball here, with this big lead, for a chance to rebuild his confidence.
Dont know if loadin the bases for Cabrera will actually do that tho.

8 run lead or not- hope JJs on a short leash this time.

Nymr83
Apr 07 2006 09:46 PM

ah rookie mistakes....hermida needs to be fined for trying to take an extra base down by 6.

Rotblatt
Apr 07 2006 09:48 PM

Wow. Julio recovers going 3-0 to Cabrera with the bases loaded to strike out Cabrera looking on a nice little slider.

And then Jacobs follows with a single through the right side of the infield.

2 runs come in, but Hermida GETS THROWN OUT at third by Nady!!!

Nice play!

And an encouraging outing by Julio. Yes, he gave up two runs, but the first two singles were not well hit and he beared down on Cabrera.

Nymr83
Apr 07 2006 09:50 PM

that was NOT an encouraging outing. he bared down on 1 batter fine, but he allowed the single to jacobs and he walked Hermida with an 8-run lead, it would be 1st and 2nd still if not for bad baserunning.

Rotblatt
Apr 07 2006 09:53 PM

Nah. If they'd been playing Jake to pull (which they should have been), his single turns into an out.

Sharply hit grounder, sure, but it wasn't a bad pitch.

Rotblatt
Apr 07 2006 10:00 PM

Backe hit Guillen in the left knee tonight and Guillen had to leave the game.

Tough opening week for Guillen, huh?

Reyes is really off to a great start padding his July trade value stats. If he

I don't know how you think of crap like this, or why.

Julio lowered his ERA, struck some dudes out and didn't hurt the team. Got to start somewhere.

KC
Apr 07 2006 10:48 PM

BS: I don't know how you think of crap like this, or why.

I base sarcastic items like this on stuff I've previously read here, read on other
internet venues, things I've heard on the radio, and have read in the papers.

I have as much right to be sarcastic here as anyone, and your asking why I post
such things and singling me out for it is really unecessary.

Leave me alone already, why are you so obsessed with the admins of this board?

But you asked a question. Do you want me to answer your question, or do you want me to shut up?

Or would you rather that I do one or the other and am wrong with either choice?

Maybe "Why are you so obsessed with the admins of this board?" was a rhetorical question, to which everyone (but me, I guess) knows the answer?

Is the right answer "Because I'm a sick, twisted, demented Met-hating scabrous waste of DNA and you;ve cleared better men than me out of your throat"? Is that close to being right?

They explained it on the radio. Some dude was waving a Yankee cap around in fun to incite the crowd, so they chanted "Yankees suck" at him.

These are the only circumstances under which it is okay to chant Yankees suck at a game when the Yankees aren't playing.

KC
Apr 08 2006 08:25 AM

Yes, it was a rhetorical question, Bret.

And let the record show that for the second or third time this week you
completely mischaracterized my intended thoughts, etc. followed by the
question "is this right" only to be totally wrong again.

Have a nice weekend.

I'm not privy to your "intended thoughts." Your post about Reyes seemed to be making fun of something, and I was checking to see that you weren't implying, in your intended or unintended thoughts, that I (or any sentient being) ever expressed an eagerness to trade him now because I thought he was getting too old or anything.

The way this works is, if you mischaracterize me like that, and I don;t deny it, then you can assume that I'm agreeing that "Reyes needs to be dumped because of his advanced years" which then becomes my actual position. So we're very clear that I don't advocate trading Reyes now because he's too old, and that I in fact think that argument is amazingly bereft of sense? Just so we're clear.

And what is the right answer to your rhetorical question? The way rhetorical questions go, the answer is supposed to be implicit in the question, but I'm not obsessed with admins of this board (I make fun of foolish posts from all CPFers) and I have no idea what you think my motivation would be for such an obsession.

KC
Apr 08 2006 01:20 PM

We're "devolving" again.

Fuck it, maybe I'll just stop posting all together - it's getting to be that I think
it'll be more fun to just run the place and not put up with the other daily bbeep.

Bret Sabermetric
Apr 08 2006 01:29 PM

Well, I'll have to go with "scabrous waste of DNA" until you supply a likelier answer, I guess.

As I keep saying, if you take this devolving stuff over to the Red Light forum, then these threads don't have to get shitted up with this nonsense. You keep introducing this non-baseball stuff and then bitterly complaining about the fact that I respond to the nonsense parts. When did this become the "KC RANTS AND NO ONE CAN RESPOND" forum?

Anyway, the game is on, so LGM, YGB, and YYYBBB for now.

KC
Apr 08 2006 02:12 PM

I really don't understand why you do this to me. I posted something sarcastic
and you treat me like a piece of garbage and then blame it all on me later on
in the thread.

Normal people don't behave like this without a motive.

Bret Sabermetric
Apr 08 2006 02:29 PM

Because I thought your sarcasm was directed at me? And, if it was, you were mischaracterizing how I feel about Reyes, and about trading players in July? And making it seem that I've said some of this stupid shit you were unloading your sarcasm on?

You claim now you were making fun of stuff you heard or read somewhere bbbyyy, but tell me who has proposed trading older players in mid-season to acquire younger players? I'll wait for your list of sources, but until you provide them, I'll be very sure that I've gotten into such discussions many a time here, and have been criticized for having that agenda item, and that you were taking a swipe at me with your sarcastic comments and now you lack the testicles to admit you were doing that with this bullshit "Who-me? What'd I do? I was just spewing sarcasm at the world, not you, Bret" pose.

That's why.

KC
Apr 08 2006 02:53 PM

Since when did the CPF become the "doc g can mischaraterize me, treat me like
shit, bump up threads like this eight notches in just nasty fashion while I exhibited
absolutely no nasty fashion forum" but then complain that I lumped him into a group
of internet posters, columnists, and radio callers who have whispered that perhaps
Reyes will never turn the corner and maybe should be moved if his OBP doesn't
improve in a slightly sarcastic post in an IGT and then say take it to another forum?

Sounds to me like you want a ton more respect than you're giving me. Do you
realize how many things you have called me this year? Nasty and rotten and
the scales are so tipped to your side it's disgusting.

I'd believe you, and I'll apologize, if you can cite one of your many sources that have called for Reyes to be traded in July for younger players if he doesn't improve his OBP. I'll give you an hour to post a source. It should be easy.

Otherwise, I'll conclude that you're full of crap. You made a lame sarcastic comment about me, I called it lame, and now you're pretending that it was just free-flowing hostility directed at a planetful of anonymous Reyes-detractors Let's just agree to disagree as to what you had in mind, okay?.

KC
Apr 08 2006 03:12 PM

I don't have the archives of late night WFAN, nor am I going to search the
papers for a blurb, nor am I going to go to mofo or wherever and back up my
inane sarcastic comment in an IGT that you've turned into another argument.

I don't want your apology, I want you to keep the playing field a little more level.
If you don't understand what I last posted, then I guess we're done.
