Did they wear those helmets again last night? Do they intend to wear them all season?

If nothing else, that really cuts into the anticipated availability of blue-hat images for this year's new Mets.

The Mets (and most teams really) had been good about their batting helmets simply being a hard version of the team's caps that day.

Last night's helmets were solid black, with the NY insignia in blue.

Do they have an all-blue version for the 2-3 times a season they whip out the blue hats?

Would be nice.

I agree that the biggest problem with these things isn't the design (air-vents, 2-tone, etc) it's that the colors are too metallic/shiny.

If there is an all-blue version we probably won't see them for a while ... like the hats. They clash with the black jackets don't you know.

Samuels is assuming a little too much authority with that whole thing.

If you read Uni Watch you know the real reason behind all this:

The equipment makers are forbidden to put their names and logos on the uniform, so they come up instead with a unique design that only they make.

If you see a player wearing undersleeves with the dot-pattern, that's Nike. Cliff Floyd was wearing them last night.

It's not like the vented hats make you run faster. And the worst thing: The ice cream leaks right through it!
