My first thought was that I wasn't interested in this book, because I thought it was just sensationalism. I think I've changed my mind though; this may be one of those important books that fans ought to read.

And I probably will read it.

It's about much more than Bonds, by the way

Stunning:

Victor Conte, Jr, the founder of BALCO, was once a member of Tower of Power, one of my favorite groups from the 1970s

Who's the shady Yankee on the cover.

I'm not sure, I was thinking it might be Giambi

It has to be Giambi.
Unless Sheff got really white. Side effect of 'roid withdrawal?

I am 100% convinced that every single track and field athlete to compete in the past 15 years was using performance enhancing drugs. They had to, or they might as well sit down!

What really gets me is that most of these people took (take?) what they were given without any thought to what it would be doing to their bodies. Steroids, hormones, drugs...women taking testosterone, men taking Clomid (which is a fertility drug for women), many using insulin. Didn't anybody worry about getting cancer or something?

I don't even like to eat real butter for fear I'll have a heart attack! (I do it anyway)

This book is a very interesting read, well written. I haven't gotten bored yet, which is a good sign. No holds barred as far as naming names is concerned.

My biggest surprise so far: Benito Santiago

Scarlet, what do you think so far?

I'm really enjoying it - I should be done with it in a day or two, and then I'll pass it along to D-Dad (if that's ok with you).

One interesting aspect is how much information the government got from e-mail and message boards. Balco may be the first wide scale cyberspace aided Federal prosecution.
