I think it's a good strategy to aim high, then settle for what you must accept. Edgy should be glad that cooby didn't take the usual course of kicking Tom Petty while he is still broken hearted.

That was my stratagy. Why aim low with a classic group like Guess Who?

VU's got too many challengers. Time to stick some Guess Who head on a pike to warn off the rest of the riff-raff. No offense, cooby. ;-)

Game on: Some people, they like to go out dancingHonestly, “American Women” grinds and kicks and screams and gets second-rate covers by Lenny Kravitz, but “Sweet Jane” is just unimpeachable. Velvet Underground =orange]> "Glace Bay Blues" vs. "Pale Blue Eyes" Thought of you as everything,Nice to hear what delta blues sound like at the delta of the St. Lawrence, but Velvet Underground steals the battle of the blue =orange]> "Hand Me Down World" vs. "Rock and Roll" I like most of these GW songs pretty well. But not one of them are sniffing the feet of my favorite VU songs so far. On this one he’s got that John Lennon bluesman howl with a psychedelic arrangement that’s kind of a Beatles-lite tune. (Curse those soft-rock drum fills though.) Despite all the computationsNot true anymore, Lou, but true then. Velvet Underground. =orange]> "Laughing" vs. "What Goes On (Closet Mix)" See the bells up in the sky”Laughing” would really do well with a stripped down VU arrangement, but, as it is, it doesn’t suffer as much from dated over-arrangements as your typical Guess Who song. I had this one as a tie, but it doesn’t have any lyrics worth excerpting as much as “What Goes On.” Plus, I think of Ringo and that makes me happy. Another one in The Velvet Underground’s column. =orange]> "No Sugar Tonight" vs. "Beginning to See the Light" Silent footsteps crowding me”Beginning to See” sounds like Lou is throwing one out. And, hey, Guess Who, you’re on the board =orange]> "No Time" vs. "Femme Fatale" "Rain Dance" vs. "I'll Be Your Mirror" When you think the night has seen your mindRain Dance” sounds like a band trying to make a hit single. “I’ll be Your Mirror” sounds like a band trying to break my heart open. I’ll even throw The Velvet Underground a bone and say Nico was right for this. =orange]> "Share the Land" vs. "White Light/White Heat" Nothing much to excerpt lyrically form “WL/WH,” it just cooks. I hate to vote against a conscientious song like “Share the Land,” but, you know, free your ass and your mind will follow. The Velvet Underground helped my ass break free with this one. =orange]> "(She's Come) Undun" vs. "All Tomorrow's Parties" A blackened shroud, a hand-me-down gown“All Tomorrow’s Pahteez” was too good to ruin with a Nico vocal. Velvet Underground<.b>. =orange]> "These Eyes" vs. "I'm Waiting for the Man" Eh, tie. Which means the Velvetinos win, 8.5-1.5.
