I've got a slider, some newfound velocity, and I'm on my third organization in seven months. HI! I'm Kyle Dowdy! You may remember me from such films as ... THIS YEAR'S RULE 5 DRAFT.

Yeah, you get a little bit longer of a leash when you're a Rule Fivey, given every chance to make the team right up until the end of spring, but you still have to make it. Apart from my pitching toolz, Mickey raves about my "makeup," which is nice, but if I have such a great makeup, why indeed AM I on my third organization in seven months? Maybe Mickey thinks highly of my rouge and mascara, which is sweet, because I put a lot of thought into it.

So far, I've thrown 3 1/3 innings and walked an incorrigible total of four batters, on the way to a 10.80 ERA. That's just not getting it done. But like I said, the Mets will likely give me a chance to turn things around. Depending on how that works out, I may go back to Cleveland, I may end up in the Mets' bullpen, or I may sneak into the rotation, depending on the health of the other guys. Heck, the team may try to sneak me through waivers.

You're so smart — you tell ME what's going to happen.

OE: Oh, and thanks for your old number, Harvey.

Kyle (Kyle!)

Dowdy (Dowdy!)

Brings out the duty in my soul!

If he keeps having a shit spring I say they say he's got a sore arm and that helps 'em get him through to the minors till they need him again. Which they will but it won;t be a big thing. He'll be something like Brian Stokes

Well Dowdy Doody. boys and girls.

I think Princess Summerfallwinterspring would have had a better chance of making the majors this year, but ya' never know.

Nothing I would want to keep in the major league roster all years.

Cash in this chip ( getting back half the Rule V cost) and move on.

I don't expect it will be Kyle Dowdy time any time soon in these parts.

Ranger Danger! Ranger Danger! Dowdy claimed on waivers by Texas before he could be offered back to Cleveland.

That's so Texas. They pulled that same shit with Logan Verrett.

how did that work out for them?

Re: Hey, Nineteen: Kyle Dowdy

I may be thinking of someone else. Verrett got Rule-Fived away FROM the Mets by Baltimore, waived, claimed by Texas, waived, and re-claimed by the Mets.

Know who I'm thinking of? Darren O'Fucking'Day. The Mets grabbed him as a Rule-Fiver from Anaheim, but when they tried to sneak him through waivers at the end of the spring, Texas grabbed him up. It actually worked out pretty good for Texas ... and great for Baltimore, who grabbed him off of Texan waivers two years later, getting 391 appearances and an All-Star selection out of him since 2012.

Re: Hey, Nineteen: Kyle Dowdy

yeah, i remember that. i was annoyed, because O'Day was a submariner and was fun to watch and effective in ST in the small bits i saw him. I'm not saying i knew he would end up having a good career, i'm just saying i noticed when we lost him and was particularly chagrined at his success with Texas.

I say this often, in other contexts, but it remains true nonetheless... fuck Texas.

I have to wonder what anyone sees in Tim Peterson. Dowdy had a high ERA but jeezus. Tim Peterson.

Re: Hey, Nineteen: Kyle Dowdy

Petey probably has more than he showed last year. Or he's worth a second look, maybe.

His peripherals were stronger than the ERA would suggest, except the homeruns. He gave up a lot in the majors last year, but that's totally uncharacteristic of his long minor league track record to date. I dunno.

I think Callaway liked his bulldogginess or some quality, too. He's put up some really impressive ERAs in the high minors. Attractive WHIPs too, for folks who are into that sort of thing.

Again, I dunno. Maybe Al Leiter thinks he's peaches.
