IGT 3/30/2019: NYM @ WAS -- March Onward

G-Fafif
Mar 28 2019 03:51 PM

The Mets carry their three-game March winning streak, going back to March 29, 2018, to March 30, 2019, in Washington, D.C. The last time the Mets played on March 30, Benny Agbayani hit the game-winning grand slam in Tokyo. Mets are 6-3 in March overall, starting with that sweet 14-inning Opening Day victory over the Phillies on March 31, 1998.

Noah Syndergaard and his teammates take on Stephen Strasburg and his teammates, 1:05 Saturday. Noah is undefeated in March. And life, it sometimes seems.

It's a decent park!

Some tips:

Park away from the stadium and take the Metro in. There are Metro stops at the park, and there is not much parking.

The Presidents gather for photos and hi-jinx in the plaza beyond centerfield just after the gates open. Pose with them all, but especially Theodore Roosevelt, who is just a bad ass!

There is a Shake Shack on the terrace in the right field area.

The larger stops on the outskirts have large commuter parking lots. We stayed at a hotel in Maryland that was near a big lot, but I'm not sure where you are staying.

Re: IGT 3/30/2019: NYM @ WAS -- March Onward

Yeah, a lot would depend on where you're staying.

If anywhere within the area served by METRO you can just leave your car wherever you leave it Friday night and do the equivalent of the 7-Train in.

https://dctransitguide.com/static/images/WMATA_system_map.png

See 'Navy Yard/Ballpark' stop on the Green line due south of the Capitol

If you want to drive to the stadium or simply near-er to it there are various parking lots in the area, the closer to the stadium the more costly they get.

Go to the Nats team page for maps, suggestions, etc. You can also pre-buy a parking pass to various lots.

This was the third 11-8 victory in Mets history. The previous two were historic:

• September 2, 1972 at Houston: Mets trail, 8-0; forge largest comeback in club history.

• June 30, 2000 vs Atlanta: Mets tie club record with ten-run eighth to overcome 8-1 deficit at Shea, capped by Piazza's three-run laser off Mulholland.

Re: IGT 3/30/2019: NYM @ WAS -- March Onward

Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Mar 30 2019 06:34 PM

- Yes, d'Arnaud is on the shelf to start the year.

I still would have pr'd for Ramos there. Turned out to not matter although it looked for a while like it might when WR couldn't go 1st to 3rd on the single.

Third catcher or not, you can't be afraid of the 'what if' scenario of the backup getting hurt in the final two (or more) innings.

Don't recall Mickey being shy about that last year so maybe he had a reason for this one. Damned if I can figger out what it was though.

- OK, it's official: Alonso is one big strong boy. That he also seems to have an idea of what he's doing up there just makes it better.

First double was impressive; second one even more so.

He also went chasing after a couple of outside sliders which, unless he proves he can lay off those, is something he'll see a steady diet of starting ... like tomorrow and every day after that.

- Not really sure why Mickey went to Lugo when he did.

Not that Familia looked great, but 22 pitches wasn't horrible especially considering that he should have been out of the inning.

And wouldn't you think Lugo is more likely to give up a HR than Familia ... y'know, one bad curveball?

3 HR last year in 70 innings for JF (1 as NYM, 2 w/OAK) but 22 HRs for Lugo in 2017-18 combined, or about 200 IP.

And you had to know Adams was coming in to PH with just that on his mind. That one is six rows deep in Philly, and 16 rows in the Bronx

- 3:50 game time ... Ugh!

I think the reluctance about pinch-running for Ramos is about losing his bat if the game remained tied or stayed close.

I think today's managers are always ready for a war of attrition and always want to have one minors weapon in the bag than the other guy.
