Thor is Sore (Not an Injury)

Noah Syndergaard ripped the impending drive-by trip to Syracuse for a two-hour Tuesday afternoon workout, especially coming on the heels of schlepping across Florida to play in Sarasota Monday. He says players would have preferred a little time in NYC to settle in before heading to DC and notes it's counter to all the team has been told about importance of establishing sleep patterns and such.

Also criticized management for not getting Jake's deal done, which might be a wee bit more significant.

The Harvey is strong with that one.

Re: Thor is Sore (Not an Injury)

He's right. Instead of flying to NY today, they are on a bus for 4 hours to spend the night in Sarasota to play yet another exhibition game tomorrow. From there, they fly to Syracuse for a workout (which they obviously could have done at Citi Field). After that, they fly to DC. By contrast, the Nationals are home tonight in advance of tomorrow's practice game against the MFYs.

Jeffy likely pushed for the Syracuse trip as publicity for his AAA team but it's not good for the players who should have been given a day or two in New York to check the mail and water the plants. BVW, as the former player's agent, should have said something but he's too busy patting himself on the back.

Re: Thor is Sore (Not an Injury)

I can see the point in an expo at Syracuse for the new arrangement (although would they have done so for a non-Wilpon-owned team?), but, yeah, between that plus one more meaningless game in Florida,

they should have chosen one or the other rather than both.

The other thing that throws a wrench into the works is that the final game of the road trip is in Miami and it's a night game (6:10 start) in front of the long flight and a 1:10 home opener the very next day.

That part, of course, isn't NYM mgmt fault -- getaway games should be day games whenever possible ESPECIALLY the first week of the season -- but it's likely what's pissing Thor off about not having a day in NYC first.

oe: And as for deGrom's negotiations ... stay out of it Noah. You do neither side any favors by opening your yap.

Re: Thor is Sore (Not an Injury)

He's totally right on this. They should've tried to line up two games at least, like they did in Vegas last/previous years. That seemed silly too, but at least it's an extension of the "practice" that Spring Training is.

He's right in his opinion, maybe, but it's hardly worth making a public thing out of.

Re: Thor is Sore (Not an Injury)

I mean, players should maybe have some say over where they're pimped out. If a bunch of them are sitting around the clubhouse grousing about having to take along bus trip across the state and then have a workout in a city 200 miles from home and 400 miles from their next game, *shrug*

Too honest? Makes the Mets uncomfortable? fuck 'em. I have no sympathy for management when the workers voice dissatisfaction with the schedule when asked.

My sympathy isn't with management, believe me.

Yeah, this. Noah's got a right to bitch about this. It kind of sucks. I mean, yeah, they're getting paid and whatever, but it still sucks.

I'm with Thor, especially on the deGrom contract. It's good to see him sticking up for his teammates.

Re: Thor is Sore (Not an Injury)

No matter how fit you are, how prepared you may be, the grind of a 162 game schedule is a tremendous challenge. A team that's serious about contending should be doing everything they can to ease that burden. Not pile on top of it for PR. But then, the Mets have never been about winning first. So, this is not a surprise.

If he's unhappy, of course he has to go public with it. What's he going to do? Fill out a form and submit it to HR?

Well, I'm no one to talk because I'm out on my ass, but yeah, I would object and have objected up the chain of command about a policy or initiative I saw as counterproductive without taking it to the media. It happens all the time.

Re: Thor is Sore (Not an Injury)

And now mechanical issues have delayed the Mets' flight out of Florida meaning they won't even get to Syracuse until ... uh, I dunno.
