You know what I can count on? Overreacting on Opening Day. Like clockwork. Every. Single. Year. Live and die with each pitch like it's a post-season game. Extrapolate the day's performance over the entire season. Looks like Cano has plenty in the tank after all. Maybe Alonso wasn't quite ready for the prime time. Conforto 0 for 4 with 2K's. You wonder if he's ever going to live up to his potential. A loss means moping around for 2 days. Wondering if we'll be out of the race by Memorial Day. A win means playoffs. What's our Magic Number? Year after year, regardless of my age.

Missed the whole thing as I was flying from the West Coast. Mrs Lefty DVR'd it and I just watched the compressed version. Good day all around and gotta say that was an awesome play by Cano to keep them off the board. If that didn't work it could have been a whole different ballgame. If Robinson keeps up like this I may have to overlook the MFY stink on him. Doncha know.

I was once at a game at Shea when none other than Barry Bonds ran into a Triple Play under similar circumstances. Barry was on 3rd in a 1st & 3rd situation (no outs obviously) and decided not to break until the relay throw was headed to 1st. The play at home was closer than this one but BB became the 3rd out

He's near a Wagshal's where you can get sandwiches to die for. Our go-to brunch place is Cafe Deluxe on Wisconsin (try the cornflake-encrusted French Toast!) And Politics and Prose is right next to Comet Pizza, so that's probably our post-ballgame Saturday night. Nats ballpark food is not on a par with Citifield's. But there's a more relaxed vibe in the house.

I've got to imagine that concession service is generally a shit show on opening day. A sellout. Baptism of fire for the new staff. Equipment turned on for the first time in months. You crack open the inventory to find out that you have 60,000 packets of mustard but none of ketchup (and, strangely, 1,000 packets of duck sauce). Plus it's cold as as the grave so an inordinate number of people are going to be hanging on the concourse just to get out of the breeze and rub against somebody. They'll also be looking for hot cocoa and shit like that doesn't sell the rest of the year, which is unavailable except at no more than one or two select spots, and they're making it at a 1,000 miles-per-hour to meet the demand, so who knows it's gonna come out? And you're looking for warmth from everything. So you buy a "hot" pretzel, and you're delighted when it's handed to you and it warms your frozen fingers, but when you get back to your seat, it's cold, staler than a Bob Hope routine, and you're feeling rope-a-doped that you waited on line for 10 minutes and then forked over $7. Get into the park early, hit the most reliable concessionaire that you know from previous visits (at Nats Park, it's Ben's Chili Bowl), and count yourself lucky if it's edible.

I feel like Opening Day brings out a lot of amateur fans too, the one's that are rarely there except for really special occasions, sometimes Opening Day is their day and that's it. They're not as accustomed to the flow of the park, etc.
