IGT April 21, 2019: NYM @ STL

It's a Sunday afternoon Mets game which usually means bad things will happen but they played yesterday as if it was Sunday so maybe they got it out of the way.

Noah Syndergaard (1-1, 5.63, 1.13) pitches for the Mets. His numbers aren't great but The Athletic's Matthew Modica wrote today:

[BLOCKQUOTE]I remain resolute in my belief that the best is yet to come for Noah Syndergaard, but I understand the frustration. His four-seam has usurped the sinker and I'll continue this mantra about increasing the usage of secondary pitches, especially the slide piece! My only concern is his first pitch strike percentage, which needs to improve.

I have said this before and will say it again until it comes to fruition. If you can acquire Syndergaard, I'd highly recommend it, this stock is about to soar.

Nathan Grimm in Rotoworld is also optimistic about Noah:

[BLOCKQUOTE]Thor has a frustrating 5.63 ERA in four starts, and on the heels of an injury-shortened season in 2018 some fantasy players may be experiencing buyer's remorse. Fret not, friend -- you didn't get scammed. Syndergaard's surface numbers belie the fact that he's been virtually the same pitcher he's always been, just with a few worse outcomes to start the year. He's still striking out nearly 30 percent of the batters he faces while walking just over 5 percent, and his expected stats per Statcast rank among the best in his career. Well-timed hits and an unusually low strand rate -- just 54.6 percent of batters are left on base, compared to 74.3 percent for his career -- seem to be the biggest perpetrators. With a little more luck on his side, Thor should be bringing down the hammer -- er, ax? -- sooner than later.

Dakota Hudson (RHP) pitches for St. Louis (0-1, 6.88, 2.33). He's their #3 prospect. This is his 4th start of the season and the longest he's lasted is 4 2/3 innings this season.

Let's hope that SNY concentrates on the Mets today rather than Keith's nostalgia for St. Louis.

Yes, one day Noah's stock will soar, hopefully 2019. I see Alsonso is banged up but not like Judge ha ha

No tempting of karma there. LGM.

I thought that Rosario was supposed to be a good fielder. You might as well play Frazier there when he returns.

Ugh. Rosario has to make that play. Two runs that shouldn't have scored.

McNeil = 2 ABs with 2-outs and a total of 5 runners on base: K, FO

Little bitty singles in one and/or the other and the Mets are at worst tied, likely ahead, and quite possibly into the StL bullpen already.

Syndergaard, meanwhile, is looking to bust through the 100-pitch limit by the 5th inning.

Thor is just not making bats miss today.

Goal Syndergaard, Assist Fowler

But he made Fowler's glove miss.

Really bizarre sequence where Cano got drilled on his hand and had to come out of the game, but it was ruled a foul ball. Lagares took his place and promptly struck out, but Confoto came up and hit one out. 6-4 Cards, but it really should be 6-5. Callaway was justifiably not happy with the call.

That was an astonishingly bad call. Even Angel Hernandez would not have made that call.

Meanwhile, is there something wrong with Rosario? The yips?

One run (perhaps) cost by Paul Emmel's incompetence.

Three runs cost by Amad Rosario's incompetence.

Let's not lose perspective here.

If there is a bad call to made, Angel Hernandez can and will make it.

Does Jed Lowrie play short? Rosario is not developing. Better yet Andres Gimenez

Your assessment of Amed Rosario would be most welcome in the "Hey, Nineteen: Amed Rosario" thread.

Lowrie has played short in the past but it has been a while. Gimenez is getting into a decent groove at Binghamton (or at least was at last check), but I really hope rushing him isn't our best option. I was more upset by the single Rosario didn't get to than I was by the error.

I'm still completely mystified by the foul ball call.

Gsellman looked really good today, taking one for the team and going three innings. Hopefully it's a positive sign long-term.

We were driving home from Maryland today and listened to the last 2/3 of the game on XM. I can tell you two things, one is that the Mets are underperforming in almost all areas, and two is that the St. Louis radio broadcasters are just dreadful.

I listened to that broadcast as well. It could have been called "Two Drunk Guys Who Can Barely Lift Their Heads Struggling to Describe the Moving Shapes in Front of Them."

I drove home thinking of sending St. Louis a sizzle reel of my own.

The second guy, who called the middle innings, was the worst. The Cano HR call had all the enthusiasm of a man passing gas on the train.
