They have a few. SNY has become hot garbage more and more and I don't really watch it, but I know I've seen a few older things. Usually part of targeted marketing. I'm sure we'll see some 69 games this year. I wonder if anyone really watches them though. Also the quality is obviously not great. It'd be a nice project to work to get their hands on _every_ game though, digitized.

Don't the Mets automatically own the rights to any.Mets broadcast? A network couldn't broadcast the game in the first place without the Mets permission. Maybe there's some waiver for national broadcasts.

Did the Mets own the rights to the games that aired on Channel 9 decades ago? Or did WOR own them? If so, the ownership of the games would have passed to whatever corporate entity has inherited whatever WOR used to be.

I'm guessing that today, a team would retain rights to its local broadcasts. Maybe back then, this right wasnt considered as valuable. Heck, game films weren't even preserved. They taped right over old games.

I'm like 98% sure the Mets don't own the rights to any of the pre-SNY stuff. The other 2% is that murky corporate mess where I'm sure SNY doesn't have some rights via who owns them and who owns the companies that own the rights and all that. The broadcasts are separate things. Thought it's interesting, now that MLB TV is a thing. If you have an account you clearly have rights to ALL games right? you can can go back to 2013 and watch a random Sunday Night game that was on ESPN? I remember, way back when ,when MLB TV was first a thing I think all the games were basically available for free afterwards. I'm pretty sure I downloaded like a random 2005 game once, and then they had some 'archived' stuff from older games that you could watch/download.

They taped right over old games. I remember when Johnny Carson was nearing the end of his run he lamented about how the early years of his show were completely gone. Film was considered expensive so the natural inclination was to reuse it. And that's a big part of all this. Not that the Wilpons don't have a knack for treating the history of the Mets as if it began only after they became majority owners, but a lot of this argument presumes that copies of old games even exist. I'm guessing that not more than a handful do.

almost everything out there was someone else capturing the games and managing not to destroy those recording till now. I maintain "Random Crappy Met Game" would still be a cool programming on SNY, where a bunch of us would sit on the couch like Crow T Robot and watch some random game where we had no promise it would be remarkable or not and just riff on the strategy, the participants etc. Who the hell thinks watching a game where you know the result all over again makes good viewing? Especially in this age of replay clips on demand. Get it togeter, Gowdy.

There's a lot of o ther content/entertainment out there.
