He's already had TJ surgery, right? Not that you can't have it twice.

So Friday's start, already pushed to Saturday, now gets pushed to ... ?

Well at least this gives him extra time to get over his strep.

I'm sure that's sincere, but baseball history is filled with injuries that are minor until the MRI.

Why would you wait until Monday? I would want clarity ASAP but perhaps they saving the airfare so he can fly back on the charter instead of separately. I imagine that there are MRI machines in St. Louis, too.

New York Mets, it's always something.

He'll be IL'd but with backdating that could mean his next start as early as a week from today to open the Milwaukee series at home.

Or in 2021 ... it's still up in the air.

My brother is a doctor in St Louis. He confirms that there are MRI machines there.

Well I like that the approach is “we think it's nothing but we're not taking chances” instead of “we think it's nothing so get back out there.” We made that mistake often enough to learn from it.

Yeah, but you always want that home MRI advantage.

Latest word: threw today, feels better, might be no MRI, planning to pitch when off the IL.

So as expected. Might skip MRI. Throwing today.

An orthopedic surgeon called WFAN today to talk about that. He said the MRI used at the Hospital For Special Surgery in NY (where the Mets and other major league teams send patients) is a special high resolution device that can differentiate sports injuries* better than many other machines can. He added that even if an MRI was taken in St. Louis and then sent to NY for interpretation, if might not show sufficient detail.

Later

*= sprains from strains from tears from fatigue pain, etc.

Re: deGrom's Elbow is "Barking"--MRI Scheduled

So are MRIs that expensive to billionaires that have a nine-figure investment they might want to protect? If you were that concerned the other day, just do it. If it tells you what you already think you know, then what harm was done?

This puzzles me, too. What's the downside?

Really, since the Mets play home games about six miles from the machine, why not just run a diagnostic MRI every two months on the rotation plus Diaz and Familia just to catch potential problems before they happen? CEOs are required to get regular checkups, and they don't put nearly as much strain on their brains as these guys put on their elbows.

Re: deGrom's Elbow is "Barking"--MRI Scheduled

I'm guessing both the player and the union that represents him doesn't have a professional interest in letting his team MRI his wing every two months, even if he might have a health interest.

Maybe in a walk year. But if you're JdG and you're set for five years, you'd want to deal with possible injuries sooner rather than later.

Re: deGrom's Elbow is "Barking"--MRI Scheduled

Maybe. Maybe for his own purposes. But allowing the team to routinely scope him sets a precedent that hurts his union brothers who haven't yet cashed in.

I could be wrong, but I think is part of what players, unions, and agents talk about.

Bottom line: ultimately handled correctly, news appears to be good, but maybe you don't inform the media every time you reconsider your position on something.

I sorta missed how it all came up but sounds like Mickey screwed it up by being uncomfortable or prone to saying dumb things to media to get them off his back
