As much as I love the classic Doc cover, I love the New Yorker cartoon even more.

Gooden does seem to have an impossibly long right arm, but that New Yorker cover is a resounding argument for art over clutter.

The scale or something is weird (I suppose intentionally) with The New

Yorker one but went with it anyway.

That's a weird text box on Pro Sports. It's like one of the Pirates (and I feel comfortable guessing that it was Richie Hebner) snuck up behind Agee and threw a ping-pong table at him while he was batting.

I'd like to read about the violent world of hockey's headhunters

It may look like a sudden, spur-of-the-moment thing. But when one hatchet man goes after another in an orgy of stick-swinging, chances are the feud's been simmering for years, waiting to explode!

Also, while the cover delivers on its promise of some red-hot Harrelson action, it also throws in a tasty side-helping of Otis.

Is Campy doing an Eddie Gaedel imitation?

Thor is a thing of beauty.

Why does Dynamic Duo require quote marks?

Re: Magazine Cover Derby Round 1.17

Fascinating story of HOCKEY'S HEADHUNTERS.

Maki and Green were both charged with assault by the NHL but the charges were dropped.

Maki went on to being one of the first stars of the expansion Vancouver Canucks franchise but got brain cancer and died at age 29. The Canucks mothballed his number 11 only to re-issue it for Mark Messier over the objections of the Maki family, sorta like how the Mets dissed Willie Mays and Joan Payson to keep Robbie Cano happy.

Green returned to the NHL and WHA and played till 1979, later became head coach of the Edmonton Oilers.

It's amazing how that writing hovers between responsible journalism and adventure pulp magazine fare.
