-- Anthony Swarzak, handling the closing chores tonight for the Mariners following the Edwin Diaz trade, serves up a one-out/two-run/9th inning/Game-tying HR to something named Gio Urshela for the

Yanx (and he's not out of the inning yet)

Re: TWiB Notes -- May 6-12

-- 2K RBI for Albert Pujols

Only Hank Aaron (2,297), Bae Ruth (2,214), Alex Rodriguez (2,086), and Cap Anson (2,075) remain ahead of him, and Ruth's and Anson's are consider 'unofficial' by some as a portion of their RBIs were

assigned retroactively for those years where it wasn't considered an official statistic.

-- So how'd ya like to be Cincy starter Tyler Mahle?

In his last two starts he's tossed 5 and 6 innings, and allowed just one run in each on a total of 7 hits/15 K/1 BB -- but he wound up on the short end of both matchups.

Two starts ago he was opposed by Syndergaard's 'Little League' 1-0 game, and then on Tuesday Oakland's Mike Fiers threw a no-hitter vs the Reds with Mahle as the opposing pitcher.

It was Fiers second career no-hitter. Also his second career complete game.

-- Texas's Joey Gallo hit his 100th career HR on Wednesday. He has 93 career singles.

Now in his 5th ML season (2 full seasons to date), 63% of his 249 ML hits have gone for XBs

That's crazy!!

Re: TWiB Notes -- May 6-12

The thing about Gallo is that he's not as atypical as all that.

Rhys Hoskins has had 54% of his hits go for extra bases. Gary Sanchez is at 49%. Adam Dunn was at 55%. Joc Peterson is at 51%.

Obviously, Gallo is further along than those guys, who I picked off the top of my head, but it was only a matter of time before a case as extreme as his came along.

Someday, folks will forget how cool baseball used to be.

"Why isn't he hitting to the side of the field where all the fielders are, Daddy?"

Re: TWiB Notes -- May 6-12

Two big May series going on this weekend.

- Brewers draw first blood on Friday afternoon at Wrigley, 7-0 is your final.

The win pulls Milwaukee into a tie w/Chicago atop the NLC although not with identical records: MWB = 24-16; CC = 22-14

- And the Yanx visit Tampa/StPete to go against the 1st place Rays

Yanx start the weekend in 2nd place 1.5 games behind the Rays who are allowing BY FAR the fewest R/G in the majors (3.06/G)

Yanx up 2-0 midway thru the 3rd

Rays, down 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th, loaded the bases with no one out ... and proceeded to go K - GiDP

Fuck you, Tampa!

The Giants have picked up Aaron Altherr from the Phillies on waivers. Altherr made the final out of the 2016 Wild Card clinching game, lining out to a diving Michael Conforto in left.

That 1-for-29 start was d'Arnaudian for Altherr. Maybe the Mets should have called the Phils.

I think of Altherr as a guy the Mets couldn't get out, at least for a while, and it made me think they don't advance scout properly. Not that I know that to be true.

Re: TWiB Notes -- May 6-12

The German-born Altherr is one of those uber-athletic types whose baseball skills just never caught up (at least not yet).

The Cubs, on a Wilson Contreras walk-off in the 15th inning, and the Rays, on a tight game until some TB runs late, even up each of those 1st-place-battling series at a game apiece.
