My guess: Nido/Alonso/McNeil (L)/Rosario/JD/Broxton/Lagares/Conforto (L). Hech for McNeil at 2B is possible.

Hechiavarria should play short. McNeil is hitting .391 against lefties so far this year. I'm looking for reasons to play him, not sit him.

    How's that for a 1st inning? McNeil with a hustle double and Rosario drives him in. Font with a 1-2-3 1st inning. Nimmo with a fantastic catch.

    I just saw this photo and for a few seconds, I thought to myself, WOW!, this guy's been around for a very long time. He played with Wade Boggs. I'm really losing track of things.

    Well that was an interesting turn at bat

    - w/runner on 1st, pitcher Strahm bunts right near the plate

    - Nido picks up the ball and throws to 2nd

    - throw is short, Rosario fields the hop but comes off the base while doing so

    - relay to 1st is late, everyone safe

    - but the Mets claim that Strahm kicked the ball after bunting

    - umps agree but say it was in foul territory and so was merely a strike, everyone back to where they were

    - Strahm bunts through Strike three and Nido throws behind runner (Margot) and picks him off to end the inning with an odd Strike-out/Throw-out DP

    Strahm deserved that by squaring 15 seconds before each pitch, and then trying to stay loose by doing squats in the batter's box.

    A tricky and evasive slide, combined with a decidedly minimum effort tag by Machado, gives Conforto a one-out stolen base w/Nimmo at bat.



    ... and Nimmo doubles off the wall/glove in CF on the 12th pitch of the AB, but Conforto, holding up to possibly tag, can only get to 3rd

    I thought of it too (how could you not?) but you're also talking about a guy with two hits today vs one with two hits over about the last three weeks ... AND with the pitcher due up after that if the bases were to be loaded.

    1st and 7th innings with a runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs, and nothing. That damn popup that fell between RosERRio and McNeil for the 2d SD run. McNeil being too short to rob a HR. The SD OFer being tall enough to rob Alonso.



    Mets are now 1 and 5 in games before a day off.

    Yeah, the idea that strikeouts are just another kind of out is kind fo absurd. Two squeeze bunts with the infielders back, and the Mets win.



    I don't want to oversell bunting, but damn, with the infielders stacked on one side and behind the infield arc, its just refusing a gift. In a game that's really hard.

    you dont need to BUNT though, you just need to put the ball on the ground which preserves the chance for a hit (and a bigger inning) while STILL getting the runner home. 'believing' in situational-hitting doesnt have to mean lots of bunting for outs

    Well, I don't think it would be for a whole lot of outs. Not the way the defense is positioned.
