So two days off. The good news, for me, is that instead of seeing Wilmer Font on Tuesday at Nationals Park I'll see Syndergaard.

Single admission double header! I though those were extinct!

There were a couple of the makeup variety last year. What's extinct is the scheduled single-admission twi-night doubleheader.

That's a shame. I used to love those!

Doubleheaders are one of the things that separate baseball away from the rest of the sports. Any other sport have teams play two games in a day?

Before the NBA became truly big time, the old Garden would host doubleheaders, with two out-of-town teams composing half of the bill. But baseball seems to be alone in presenting what we think of as doubleheaders.

Braves @ Cleveland, Sat April 20

Game 1 = 3:04, Game 2 = 3:54

That's what killed the double-header!

OK, so it wasn't the only thing, but it's certainly a factor.

DH's existed in the old days for two basic reasons:

- to give extra off-days in the days of slower travel

- to increase attendance by giving fans the equivalent of a two-fer-one deal.

The first of those conditions no longer applies, and, given the length of game times (7 hours as in the example above plus

whatever between-game time is involved), and the second would probably be considered a disincentive to a lot of folks now.

I suspect that cartoon is directed towards me although I have no idea what it's trying to say.
