The Mets needed more lefthanded relief. They were pro-active, and they went out and signed me. And now ... then need more lefthanded relief.
The thing is that I've already been on the DL twice this season. The first time it was with left elbow soreness, and the second time, it was with ... left elbow soreness. We're not talking about UCL surgery yet, but ... let's just say I have Dr. Andrews' number in my cell phone.
That's a lot of elipses in my first two paragraphs. That tells you a lot about my season so far. Putting aside my ERA, I haven't exactly been awful when I've been on the field, but it's been awful tough to stay on the field. And yeah, I know that I have an ex-Yankee taint. But the Mets and the HSS doctors say I don't have structural damage, so I hope to be back soon.
Also, I'm not much of a breaking ball pitcher, so hopefully that takes a bit of stress off of Mr. Elbow. I prefer the hard stuff: a four-seam fastball, a two-seam fastball, and a cutter. I occasionally will bounce in a curve, but that's just to see up the heat.
You and me have been set up with each other as the summer heat rolls in. Let's make the best of it and be a part of this thing.
But I just play here. To predict what this thing is going to look like, I turn to you. Because looking like Jimmy Cagney is only going to get me so far.
