Memories of Travis d'Arnaud

Dodgers have signed Td'A, envision his versatility.

He was the catcher of record for a National League champion, no small thing.

He wasn't a successor to Molina and Posey, which we were led to believe he'd be.

A deeper appreciation of who Travis was and what he seemed destined to be:

Re: Memories of Travis d'Arnaud

Good for LA.

With Travis out of work for a few days, it struck me that Noah Syndergaard was the last active player from the R.A. Dickey trade, but nope, Josh Thole is still grinding it out with the Dodgers AAA affiliate in Oklahoma. Although, I guess he just got knocked down the depth chart by a notch.

Re: Memories of Travis d'Arnaud

IIRC, my wife and I were at the game in which he hit his first major league homer. It just got over the fence in left and was in a blowout loss to the Tigers.

Re: Memories of Travis d'Arnaud

He always struck me as a heavy-hearted, sensitive guy.

I certainly don't like the thought, but I tend to figure that to be an everyday big-league catcher, you have to at least partially be an asshole.

Re: Memories of Travis d'Arnaud

He probably should have been a second baseman and not a catcher.

Pushed aside by higher profile teammates for a uni number when he shouldn't have been so accommodating. Similarly, always too willing to change his stance/approach at the plate. Just never secure enough in his baseballness.

It was his injury, twice, that really threw off good starts by the club

Re: Memories of Travis d'Arnaud

The Mets broke tradition by not getting a Cy Young winner for him.
