Concussions

These are really bad for baseball players right? Or are we just hyper-sensitive because of Ryan Church and Jason Bay?

This season sucks.

On Edit: It occurs to me that Brandon Nimmo hit the wall pretty hard a few weeks back. Could he be suffering from a concussion as well?

Re: Concussions

They can be really bad, obviously. And Ryan Church is the textbook case of how NOT to handle a player with a concussion. Basically, you wait until the player is back to normal before you even think about taxing him. Sometimes that only takes a week, but sometimes it can be longer. In the meantime, we hope Conforto is dealing with the mild variety.

Re: Concussions

They're sending him back to New York on a train, which shows they've learned something since sending Ryan Church around the world on a plane.

As long as Michael doesn't get dizzy walking through Penn Station, everything will be swell.

Re: Concussions

Less talked about is that they lead to some emotional turmoil for a few days or weeks. I mentioned getting sucker punched in the street several years ago. I refused medical attention at the scene. I'm a man and I didn't really feel anything.

What I didn't consider in my stupidity is that (1) that's the adrenaline talking, and (2) the brain doesn't feel pain.

So later than night and in the next several days I was bouncing among depression, rage, and utter disengagement.

I can only speculate about Nimmo, but he sure looks like his head hasn't been in the game more than one time in three.

Hopefully two people are with him, and two more people are (I guess "were" at this point) waiting to help him up the stairs and into a limo.

Limo? He works for the Wilpons, he was lucky if they sent an Uber!

I got my bell rung a bunch of times growing up (3 times diagnosed with

mild concussion and probably a few more undiagnosed) and the only thing

I remember is being encouraged not to sleep a lot for the first day or two.

Of course this was back in medieval dark ages concussion-treatment wise.

Re: Concussions

I was at Thursday's game and when Conforto was on the ground some idiotic Nationals fan (sorry for the redundancy) yelled "Rub some money on it!" and others laughed as if he was being paid such a grand sum that he has no right to be injured. I hope that guy falls off a ladder while changing a lightbulb and bangs his head.

Yikes. I'd be tempted to photoshame that guy.
