1. Fred Wilpon buys out the Doubleday Group. The Wilpon-Katz group acquires 100% ownership of the Mets. 2. Early 1990's- Fred Wilpon becomes the de facto majority owner of the Mets. 3. The Mets trade Tom Seaver to the Reds. The gap between the 2nd and 3rd ranked events is about as wide as the Grand Canyon.

As slow-burn disasters go, the Wilponization of the Mets is up/down there for sure (and I realize that's the point here). For football-to-the-groin off-field emotional distress, though, it's hard for me to get around the big three of the death of Gil Hodges, the trade of Tom Seaver and the announcement that Doc Gooden tested positive for cocaine the first time. Memo to Stockholm: This could be next season's Derby topic.

For me it's the combination of choking out of the 2008 playoffs while the Wilpons rubbed their hands in Glee in anticipation of the destruction of Shea, an act so baldfacedly disgusting that they actually sold the center field fence panel before the season was even over and put a fuckin' fake panel in it's place thinking no one would notice on the day they held a " ceremony" to honor it! Fuck you Fred and Jeff! Will never forgive you

Scioscia, Yadier F. Molina and Game 1 of the 2015 WS should be on this list) were terrible for themselves. But none of them have anything to do with tonight's game. The Wilpon rise to power is the worst. We are looking at more of the same for as long as we can see. Part of the reason these moments hurt so much is that when they happen, you know that was your shot. And you're not getting back there for another decade. For real, I got depressed recently when I realized I am probably not going to outlive the Wilpon era. Fuck them man.
