A couple years removed from a World Series loss. Splashy offseason move to trade for an aging second baseman that's supposed to rejuvenate the offense. Injuries and players performing below expectations leads to a disaster season that takes several years to recover from.

I don't know how well the parallel works, but I'm generally down on splashy offseason moves to trade for an aging second baseman that's supposed to rejuvenate the offense. Also, a highly physically fit manager who gaining a reputation for being out of his depth.
