A couple years removed from a World Series loss.



Splashy offseason move to trade for an aging second baseman that's supposed to rejuvenate the offense.



Injuries and players performing below expectations leads to a disaster season that takes several years to recover from.

Also, a highly physically fit manager who gaining a reputation for being out of his depth.

You mean Howe or Valentine, because Howe was '03. I don't remember Valentine being considered out of his depth...whereas that describes Howe to a tee.
