Re: Altherred State

Altherr has a chance to join Joe Torre, Chico Walker and Jay Bruce as the last-outmakers of Met posteason berth-clinchers to eventually play for the Mets.

Without options, I'd expect we'll be doing 'Memories of Eric Altherr' shortly.

I could've sworn he was still a Phil, if only a benchy one.

Following in the stolzer tradition of Gardenhire and Toni Stoner as a German-born German-American Met. So if he sucks, at least his folks will have a few dozen compound words to describe the feelings that elicits.

Re: Altherred State

As we were discussing in another thread the Phils DFAed him after he started the year 1-28 or something

Re: Altherred State

He was good as recently as 2017. Hell, we've already caught lightning in bottle twice while dumpster diving for outfielders. (Now Gomez and Rajai Davis might not give the Mets much overall, but it's already two more big hits than I was expecting.)

Re: Altherred State

I associate the name "Aaron" with once-pretty-good middle-of-the-rotation National League starters who make late-career cameos with the Mets and generally fail to distinguish themselves.

In fact, the name has been so star-crossed, Altherr may become the second-best Aaron in Mets history just by walking onto the field.

1) Heilman

2) Altherr

3) Harang

4) Ledesma

5) Laffey

6) Sele

Re: Altherred State

I associate the name "Aaron" with Henry, then maybe those guys.

I think Sele was better than Laffey. Lasted a whole year without ever getting used!

I barely remember Harang was a Met.

Re: Altherred State

Wore #8 with the Giants. It'd be cool if he broke the Carter stranglehold, but he'll probably go with the #23 he wore most of his Phillies tenure.

OE: And it's been recently vacated by Broxton.

Re: Altherred State

He's listed at 6'5".

That makes him the tallest Mets outfielder since ... ?

The German-born Altherr will wear No. 23.

Wonder if Altherr will bring his German shepherd into the clubhouse.

Re: Altherred State

Atherr is one of those uber-athletes who only occasionally matched that to actual baseball skills.

On the other hand, BVW clearly has a line on bringing aboard discarded veterans who almost immediately hit late-inning 3R HRs, so it's just a matter of when not if.
