He should have gone for some cheek-slashing, Eddie Murray-type, pointed biker sideburns.

These covers hit the newstands within a coupl'a weeks of each other. More than anything else, this derby is reminding me of just what a humongous big deal Darryl Strawberry was from about the end of his minor league stint through his sophomore season. No. Actually, since his High School senior year.

Both felt too soon (though he was the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, if one can be said to reign as the winner of something you can't win again), but it was a thrill having a guy rushed onto national periodical covers. The SI one is classier. The TSN one suggests eastbound and westbound traffic coming in and out of Darryl's nostrils.
