On 6/20/65, nine days after facing off against fellow former Cy Young award winner Don Drysdale, Spahn started against Sandy Koufax. Spahn, in the midst of his best stretch as a Met, pitched fine outings in both of those games. The Mets lost both games by identical 2-1 scores.

The question asked when the first time it happened. If you're looking for the most recent prior to tonight, you have to go way back ... to deGrom's last start when he was matched with Scherzer.
