Like the Isles splitting their seasons between Barclays and the Coliseum...but with a much longer commute.

So the Rays are going to end up playing in Belmont, clearly.

Re: Meet the Ex-Rays

The Brooklyn Dodgers used to play some home games in Jersey City, I think.

But of course this is much different. Montreal and St. Petersburg are about 1,500 miles apart. I guess they'd be the Tampa-Montreal Rays. (Kind of like the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons.) Sucks for the dozen or so Rays fans in Florida who would be far away from any late-season pennant race games. Would they return to Florida for any post-season games, because of the better weather? Or will Montreal have a domed stadium?

This is very strange. I have to think it's really a first step towards a permanent relocation.

Re: Meet the Ex-Rays

This seems like A) a move for leverage to get a new stadium in St. Pete, and B) If serious, a really sucky plan for players.

I think we forget that these guys have wives and kids and stuff, and asking them to uproot from one home and move to another mid-season seems very difficult -- especially when one of the homes is in another country, and in a province where French is the main language. I know when my home life is in turmoil, it's hard to keep my head in the game at work. So I wonder if such a plan would affect performance.

Re: Meet the Ex-Rays

The Jersey City Dodgers thing was O'Malley telling New York to get serious about giving them the new ballpark they wanted.

The White Sox played selected home games at County Stadium for a couple of years after the Braves and before the Brewers, ostensibly to highlight Milwaukee's continued viability as a big league market.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall a period of Philadelphia 76er history when they played a few home games in Syracuse to honor their forebears. Am I making this up? I'm making it up, aren't I?

The Celtics used to play a few games a year in Hartford.

Agreed. I wonder how much resistance the PA will offer to this (or if they even can; I assume they can).

If it's a home stand or two, that's one thing. But if it's a big chunk of the season you think there would be some recourse.

Toronto and half-Montreal should make for a nice regional, divisional rivalry.

The 100-point Wilt game was in Hershey, PA rather than in Philadelphia

Not sure if that was a one-off or some occasional side trip.

Yes, in Roosevelt Stadium.

And the Rays thought they were only going to move here:

This is going to piss off a lot of people who sold, or bought, bonds for that new place.
