More Classick Cartoon-Related Bullshit

I didn't want to further clog up tomorrow's IGT, but it turns out The Banana Splits are returning, on the big screen, in a horror movie, rated R for violence and gore.

That's just wrong! Fleagle, Beagle, Drooper and Snork would never do such things!

Well, Snork, maybe. But not the rest!

Fun Fact: The cocaine-addled Danger Island shorts were directed by Richard Donner.

Same here.

Partly, probably, because I was a bit too old for the demographic when it arrived, but just the look of it never appealed to me and I don't recall ever actually watching it.

Sid & Marty Krofft created the nightmare fodder of my youth.

I *wanted* to like the B. Splits but it turns out they weren't actually funny and iirc were just segments between cartoons that also had funniness limitations.

I liked Wacky Races enough, but even then I knew it wasn't written or executed as well any Warner Bros competitor you could name.

I love horror and I love the Banana Splits so I'm looking forward to this! When I was a kid I loved Fleegle since he was voiced by Paul Winchell (who did the voice of Tigger). Oddly enough, Drooper the lion character looked a lot like Tigger.

It was always the kind of show I watched while waiting for another show to come on. (Not like we had a lot of options then. Kids today don't know the struggle!)

The theme song and opening credits were always better than anything on the actual show. I remember sending box tops off to Battle Creek to get the 45 of the theme. Still have that somewhere!

Haven't really been paying much attention to the other divisional standings

as much as I normally do... didn't realize the Cards were as mediocre as us.

STL (33‑33) Jack Flaherty (RHP, 4-3, 4.08)

NYM (33‑34) Jacob deGrom (RHP, 3-6, 3.45)

So here's my Banana Splits story. I was definitely in the target audience age group when BS aired original episodes. And I fucking hated that show. But I knew the theme song, which was catchy as all hell to a seven or eight year old. So there was this kid in our neighborhood who was a loner and pretty much kept to himself all the time. A mostly indoors kid who rarely came out to play. He was very intelligent and something of a musical child prodigy and he was a year or two older than me. I didn't know him well, but knew him a little bit better than the other kids in the nabe knew him because my parents socialized with his parents. So the first time I'm over at his house, he's sitting at his piano and playing. And he's showing off and seven or eight year old me is really impressed. And then he tells me that he could play anything. Any song. By ear. No sheet music needed. And he tells me to name a song, any song, and he'll play it. So seven or eight year old me, without much of a music repertoire then, asks him to play the Banana Splits theme song. Which he did. He absolutely nailed it.

Bob Marley also drew inspiration from the Banana Splits theme.
