Re: 25 Years Ago Today

Was in a bar-restaurant in King of Prussia PA. Everyone was transfixed. Surreal

There was an NBA playoff game going on with they picture-in-pictured, before they gave up and went all-OJ.

I think if OJ doesn't get away with decapitating his wife, we don;t get Trump. Motherfuker

Did you follow that chase as it unfolded? If so, follow him on twitter!

Bigger game than I remembered - 1994 Finals! Senility is settling in...

[BLOCKQUOTE]Telecast interrupted by O. J. Simpson car chase

During Game 5, most NBC affiliates split the coverage of the game between NFL Hall of Famer O. J. Simpson's slow speed freeway chase with the LAPD. At the time, Simpson had been an NFL analyst on NBC.

The coverage was presented on a split screen, with the game taking up the smaller portion of the television screen on the left, while live coverage of the chase was shown in a bigger screen on the right. The audio came from the chase as narrated by NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw.[13]

KNBC in Los Angeles, serving the media market where the police were tracking Simpson, left game coverage completely for the chase and did not even put up a split screen until the end of the game, which was still close at the time. By this point, Simpson had returned to his mansion in Brentwood and had surrendered to police.

A complete re-broadcast of Game 5, with natural crowd audio substituting for the parts for which NBC did not provide audio, is part of the DVD release of this series from Warner Home Video. Wikipedia[/BLOCKQUOTE]

Re: 25 Years Ago Today

I have that broadcast on some VHS tape somewhere. I had a very strange day that day, which was also the same day that the Rangers celebrated their Stanley Cup title with a parade on lower Broadway's Canyon of Heroes.

Anyways, by the time of that afternoon, I hadn't slept in more than 24 hours, and knew I was gonna crash soon. So, wanting to watch the Knicks game, I taped it. This was before the internet, obviously. So I woke up like three or four in the morning,, put on my tape, and watched the whole thing unfold. I didnt switch to live TV to find out if OJ killed himself or whatever because I didnt want to catch a Knick spoiler in the process.

Re: 25 Years Ago Today

I pretty much didn't pay attention to this circus at the time and all these years I know little to nothing about the whole thing and I'm fine with that.

Re: 25 Years Ago Today

I was on a golf trip staying in our host's cabin by the Susquehanna River and was without a television that night.

Kind of glad I missed much of the early days of that circus.

The Rangers parade; the Knicks and their ultimately unsuccessful attempt to get themselves a parade; the US Open golf tournament which included Arnold Palmer's (45?) final appearance;

and the opening of the first World Cup to be held on US soil.

In all it was quite a day/weekend for sports and sports-related stories.

Re: 25 Years Ago Today

14. They put it on in class I think. Which class? maybe Social Studies? Probably the first I'd heard of OJ. I don't think I paid much attention to it after that, beyond what brief exposure I had to 'news' in those days.
