Of course. Ice cream doesn't taste as good either now that Jeter has retired.







James Paxton is the LH starter for the Yanx, hence JDD in the 3-hole along with a RH-heavy lineup (though Cano is in there).

Paxton was the Yanx big pitching addition this off-season but has been very up and down so far.

He's pitched several (partial game) shut-outs but also has several more where he's given up 5 or more runs early in games

including 6 earned in 2.2 vs the Mets back four starts ago (6/11) - that was the one where we didn't blow the lead.

Paxton is also 0-for-2 batting this season (aka: playing REAL baseball) and 0fer-9 in his career. If he should get on but

them gets hurt running the bases expect a Steinbrennerian critique to the Park Avenue offices of the unfairness of being

forced to play under NL (read: Real) rules.





Former Rox DJ LeMahieu has been their best hitter this year and is coming off the month of June where he hit like .900,

and they were all doubles. Actually 'only' .395 in June with 16 of his 45 hits going for XB, but you get the idea. He hits

a double every time I'm watching him so it seems that way.



Miscellany:

Luke Voit was just IL'd and Giancarlo Stanton was just re-re-IL'd.

Kendrys Morales was just SL'd (Seeya Later dude) aka: DFA'd just six weeks after trading (probably not much) to get him

I noted over the weekend that Brett Gardner bitches over B/S calls just as much on the other side of the Atlantic: 'Aww c'mon ump, that was at least 12 centimeters off the plate!!'

So, so far, this game is typical of recent NYM games: - our pitcher, despite allowing no (1st inning) baserunners, needed close to two innings worth of pitches (24) just to get through the opening frame - our offense allowed their hurler to get through an inning having to only retire two batters

McNeil's foot speed forced Paxton to actually retire three batters in the third ... although, when you think about it, one was on a bad bunt by someone trying to make an out so he's really only had to retire six batters so far this game. And Wheeler is at five innings worth of throws w/2 outs in the 4th

So our .300+ hitting pitcher can't bunt, and their non-hitting pitcher does it perfectly twice.

I don't want to say that Justin Wilson has been gone for a long time ... but I had no idea what he looked like. John Sterling, btw, is about to break his long streak on Yanqui radio. He hasn't missed a game since he was hired (early '90s?) but will skip their upcoming trip to Tampa

One thing GKR didn't mention in talking about McNeil's hustle to hold Aaron Hicks to a double is that Hicks kind of posed for a few seconds - probably thinking that he was in a different park in the city and that his hit was 17 rows deep. Terrific game. Until Conforto buttfucked Britton on the first pitch he was about the worst player in the world. On both of JDDs hits we sat there for it seemed like forever waiting to see whether they carried or drifted enough. Very exciting moments both. It was very warm but also very breezy. Also super humid. I thought for example Gtegorius had an easy HR on the one he drove to CF. I like how we rode Wheels so hard after the somewhat difficult start he had. Gutsy performance even if he screwed up sacbunts twice and didn't cover the bag like he should. Rosario had a nice game. Tuesday Night Mets Club is a very respectable 4-1, I think now. The crowd wasn't "up" really ever till the 8th even though it was a great game. No fights that I saw

This was an enjoyable game and I watched nearly all of it. Was happy to see Diaz looking a bit more like his expected self, for the 2nd game in a row no less.
