Jake going, too! First time Mets have had multiple All-Stars since 2016.

Mets-wise, election-wise, wishful thinking.

Re: All-Star Game 2019

McNeil is the first Mets No. 6 to make an All-Star team.

Nick Evans never got enough signatures to get on the ballot

So, the next two potential All-Stars to come up have to be dressed in 11 and 23.

Re: All-Star Game 2019

No 11s, no 19s, no 23s. Interesting.

=G-Fafif post_id=14816 time=1562042968 user_id=55]4 Snider

Looks like Snider moved from 11 to 4 in July of 1963 for some reason, which I guess would have been just before the ASG. Vince Coleman in 1993 would have been our best shot at an 11, but was really only meh in the first half and Bonilla was the Mets' rep.

Best shot at a 19 would probably have been... Ojeda, I guess? He had a great first half in 1986, but there was some serious competition in his own rotation that year.

As a 23, you'd think Bernard Gilkey would have gotten a nod in 1996, but Lance Johnson was the Mets OF representative, starting over the injured Tony Gwynn. He was the only NLer to play the whole game, too.

The reason for Duke's 11 to 4 transformation was the trade of Charlie Neal to Cincinnati on July 1 (we got Jesse Gonder), eight days ahead of the 1963 ASG. Neal and Snider Dodger teammates, and 4 was certainly the Duke's calling card in Flatbush, but Charlie had 4 here in ‘62, Duke didn't become a Met until the next season's eve, and, perhaps most importantly, Choo Choo Coleman might not have recognized his roommate Neal, who asked him, “Choo Choo, do you know who I am?”

“Sure,” Coleman replied. “You're Number Four.”

Re: All-Star Game 2019

Since Garrett, 11 has gotten a lot of journeyman reserve infielders — Veryzer, Ashford, Templeton, Velandia. Alternatively, it's also been a first stop for soon-to-be journeyman reserve infielders — Bogar, Ledesma.

How about Tim Teufel 1987 for the starriest year in an 11? Only 43 first half games, but he was an extra-base machine, going .346 / .430 / .608 // 1.038 in 153 trips to the plate.

He even reached on an error five times!

Re: All-Star Game 2019

Elevenwise, Lenny Randle needed to express his disgruntlement in Texas sooner. Two-and-a-half months of All-Star play weren't enough to sneak in at third base in 1977 behind starter Ron Cey (as if Mike Schmidt and Pete Rose were somehow more deserving than Lenny).

Re: All-Star Game 2019

I chronologically transposed Cone's two numbers in the list that appears on MBTN (fixed above). Should be Cone wearing 44 in 1988 ASG, 17 in 1992.

You see, I noticed this, and I thought, "That sounds completely wrong — reversed, even — but G-FaFiF MUST know what he's talking about, and I just need to get with the program."

That's unhealthy.

I know that feeling. Even though, this time, it would've meant two simultaneous 17's what with Keith and all.

Re: All-Star Game 2019

How about Ollie Perez 2007 for the closest they've come to a #46 All-Star?

I originally thought Neil Allen, but I was surprised to see he did more good work as a 13.

Re: All-Star Game 2019

TC brought his coaching staff with him to 2016 ASG, including Dick Scott (23), Dan Warthen (38), Pat Roessler (6) and Tim Teufel (11).

Not quite the same thing an All-Star selection the way we think of one, but the numbers did appear on Mets unis at the ball.
