The New York Mets, winners of seven in a row and seven in a row before a loss so rudely interrupted them, are a hair or so out of a playoff spot and a hair and a half from the one Washington packed for its trip to Citi Field. The Nationals need to do a better job of locking their suitcases. Friday night they left themselves wide open to swipage. Noah Syndergaard takes the hill on Hawaiian Shirt Night. Patrick Corbin also does, but who cares about him?

Corbin got hit around by AZ in his last start, 5 1/3 IP, 5 ER. He's having a good season, 3.43 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 164 K in 141 2/3 IP. This is his 5th start against the Mets this season (2-2). http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/31313/patrick-corbin Alonso and Rosario hit HR's off him in the most recent game. Shirtless Mike From Seattle, Washington has 4 HR's off him, JD and Amed have 2. Noah has given up 3 HR's to Robles and 2 to Rendon but that was all pre-Vulture.

When HCITC first came out, I liked it enough but it bothered me A LOT to discover the singer was a guy. I thought "Nick" in Nick Gilder could be like Nicolette Larsen, and it caused me all kinds of cognitive dissonance... I didn't know how to process the ambiguity and between that and the lyrics lecherousness, it resulted in me deciding that I hated the song. Now that I'm a grown up and evolved, I can admit all that and every time I hear that song now I turn it way up and rock out. What a terrific song. Worth the extra 30 seconds in your life is the extended LP version you never hear on the radio: the ending you hear above is a false ending, and you get an extra little solo and different wind down that makes it like a million times better. I was at the bar of a local Mets fan/freelance sports writer, and I had two premonitions. 1) "I know Lugo hasn't given up a run in a dog's age, but look at Soto's face. That MoFo is locked in. Maybe a ¡MOOBAK. 2) Next inning, I'm all, "Look at that douchebag with the crooked ha ... holy shit, is that ... FERNANDO RODNEY?! THAT guy is still at it? He's been in the league since crunk was a thing and he's NEVER done anything against the Mets. I don't care if the Mets are sending Guillorme up here. This guy's TOTALLY gonna put his foot in it ..." and KABOOM! Except, this time it was a true Mets KABOOM! Fucking KABOOM! I paid my tab and headed to my car and Howie Rose took me home via the miracle of satellite radio. Despite getting to spend the game with a Mets fan or two, for some reason I wanted to follow the conclusion on my own. Actually, I wanted to follow it with youse guys. Holy shit, right?

First time out in Flushing in a while and what a perfect night for it. Reportedly a sellout and it may well have been - people were in their seats and LOUD. Someone asked about Panik's walkup song. Sorry, couldn't hear it as crowd was going nuts after Guillorme. Loved the move of keeping in Lugo for the bottom of the Washington order. Loved the roster flexibility with McNeil playing 3 positions. Alonso might be pressing a little, or just looking to extend that HR streak. A winning ballclub is FUN. LGFM
