The Mets haven't seen a lot of Sanchez in his bland Nationals uniform. He's was hurt earlier this year so the Mets have only faced him for 1 1/3 IP this year (0 ER, 1 H). Mets players haven't had much success against him. Shirtless Mike has a HR but is 1 for 8. Panik is 3 for 6 (if Mickey can cite Panik being 1 for 1 against Dolittle as justification for letting him bat on Friday, I can cite 6 ABs her). Ramos is 6 for 18. Frazier is 1 for 19. Jake has defeated WSH twice this year, 13 IP only 1 ER. Adam "The Mortgage King" Eaton is 6 for 15 against Jake with a HR; Trey Turner is 9 for 31 with a HR (and 12 K's). Rendon is 2 for 28.

Just watched the error on replay. Isn't the catcher supposed to follow up the line on a play like that? (And isn't he supposed to catch the ball to prevent the third run from scoring?)

Jake's not gonna last too much longer, at 90 pitches now. Hopefully he gets a quick inning, but we've got a long stretch for the pen and Lugo after two last night probably isn't an option.

Sure, although I would have scored that as a two-base E on Alonso and then a second one on deGrom for throwing the ball in the dirt to Ramos.

It's pathetic that strike 3 on Davis would have been called correctly in The Atlantic League but it's called incorrectly in the major leagues. This crew is awful.

I'm OK with how this is playing out. Altherr has a shot at 'running into one'; Fammy leaves with a good feeling; Diaz hasn't worked in days and has tomorrow off We often complain when a manager saves his closer for the closing opp that never comes, so I have no problem going to Diaz now.

I will disagree with you and agree with Keith. The throw was fine. Jake has to catch that. And if anybody gets two errors on that it has to be Jake. On the non-catch and the bad throw home.

Pete was fine on that play, threw ball to bag as the textbook says. Maybe a tiny

bit too much mustard but I'm sure deGrom would like another stab at his foot/

You could if this game to death. If DeGrom hadn't loaded the bases in the first place. If Alonso's throw had been a little better. If DeGrom had been quicker to the bag. If Ramos hadn't dropped the throw. If Rosario hadn't grounded out. If Conforto had gotten a hit instead of a sac fly. If the ump hadn't blown the strike call on Davis. If Davis had swung at something that close with 2 strikes. If we didn't have three defensive specialists on the bench when we needed a pinch hitter. If Diaz hadn't served up another fat pitch. It's a loss. No one player caused it, just like most losses. It's just that we haven't seen many losses lately, so we've forgotten what they're like.

There has to be some sort of wheel play (i.e., the shortstop covers third and the third baseman gets to the plate well in advance of the second runner) in that situation, no? Or at least, one should be implemented in hindsight. DeGrom chasing after a ball that was rolling away from him as fast as he was running after it, with everybody else standing around, is not a situation you want to risk repeating.

Ideally, I guess. I'm not sure at what time a third baseman can break for the plate with runners on second and third. The catcher has to stay put for a few beats not knowing if there is going to be a play at the plate. By the time he abandons the spot, a lot has taken place, and he may not be of use backing up first.

Missed this game due to my son's games. It's a bummer but I would have signed on for 2 out of 3 before the weekend. What fun series. It's funny, if that throw is made we probably sweep them. But if Guillorme doesn't hit his first HR on Saturday, we probably lose two of three. And if Guillorme pops up that ball and Todd Frazier hits into a DP, we get swept. This is why baseball fans are so neurotic. Little plays make such a huge difference.
