"Well, hey, at least we'll be able to trade our most tradeable player and get something good in return, right?"

Yeah, not so much.

Oh and who cares. Let's keep Wheeler, he's pretty good and I don't trust Omar and Fred to make a good deal anyway. I mean, he won't replenish Kelenic and Dunn, so what's the point?

Re: Wheels Down

They almost traded him in 2015 when he was on the DL. I guess they can still trade him now. They might as well get the best deal they can.

Re: Wheels Down

Of course, if Sandy Alderson were running things, and the owners were more like Nelson Doubleday, who stayed out of things but spent like the major market team the Mets are, the team wouldn't be in the utter shithole of a position they're usually in, like now.

Two first place finishes in 31 seasons.

10-day IL. He'll be off before the trading deadline in any case.

Yes, but his value takes a hit. Plus he'll have to show an effective start to be worth anything at all.

I'm not a big fan of this type of deal -- trading someone in his walk year for prospects. Sure, it makes sense to get something for them, but few teams are willing to give up much. About the only one in recent years that worked out for the Mets was trading Beltran for Wheeler. Most of the rest of the prospects never amounted to anything.

Lately, Wheeler has indicated that he'd like to stay in New York since he doesn't like change, so maybe he can be re-signed. But it wasn't too long ago he indicated he wanted very much to test the free agent waters.

Now, hopefully Frazier doesn't also get hurt. I don't believe the Mets get anything for him but it'd be cool to see him traded anyhow.

Oh, wonder if the Wheeler suitors will take Matz instead?

Re: Wheels Down

If everything is timed right ( I know, asking a lot from this team), the Wheeler can make two starts before the deadline. I think this is more about making sure he's healthy enough to be traded, and not getting hurt in a subsequent start.

I guess he's back in the rotation.

Is there an alternate universe where those two are on the trading block?

Back to Wheeler, I don't see him fetching much when off the IL. Part of me says

stick with him and let him audition for another contract. Nothing crazy, of course.

"A team source tells Yahoo! Sports' Mike Mazzeo that chances are "pretty high" that Wheeler will be dealt before the July 31 Trade Deadline. "

Nothing is official yet but Wheeler, who threw earlier today, is a strong bet to make his return from the IL on Friday

Trade deadline is next Wednesday
