It's pretty sad.

Re: The DFAed Knight

What a shame. A potentially great career derailed by injuries. He pitched some great games for us. Some unneeded drama, too. But he was magic.

If we trade a starter, I wouldn't mind giving him some time at Syracuse to see if he can get back to a useful form. A humbler Dark Knight might be a good thing.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think his ship has mutually sailed to the

point of no return Met wise.

Angels eat the balance of that $11 million they foolishly gave him last winter. Someone will pick him up but it better not be the Mets.

He could be useful. As a batting practice pitcher.

Re: The DFAed Knight

I'm tempted to say that it's been downhill for him since he blew off practice before the playoffs began, but he had a really strong start against the Cubs, and a decent one in Game Two of the World Series.

Obviously, he was terrific in Game Five until he seemingly self-saboutaged. You don't want to glean any sort of causality where it doesn't really belong.I guess it would be more accurate to suggest it was downhill from that point.

I cheered when he came back out.

Anyway, every time I open this thread I expect it to say he's a Met again.

I know he wasn't the best of guys when he was here, but I still feel bad for him. Could have been a hall of famer. Say what you want, he told his agent to go to hell and put the team first in 2015. I'll cheer for him every time I see him.

It goes to show you how fleeting a professional sports career can be. At the end of 2015, Harvey was 26 years old with a 2.53 ERA in 65 career starts. Pitching in the greatest city in the world, appearing on late night TV and commercials, dating supermodels or whatever.

2016-17: 5.78 ERA in 36 games, 185 innings.

2018-19: 5.53 ERA in 44 games, 214 innings for three teams.

Re: The DFAed Knight

Well, more than most roles in a professional sports career, pitching is ephemeral. Quality pitching even moreso.

And with all the drastic steps the powers-that-be are currently taking with regard to manipulating workloads to sustain pitchers' health, I'm not convinced it's been particularly effective.

Fully agree, because it feels like the number of pitchers who *don't* have TJS is smaller than the number who do. I don't know what the answer is, either. I appreciate that they're trying to do *something,* though.

Ironically, Harvey's $11M 2019 deal was the largest contract of his career. By far. When Harvey was baseball's best pitcher for about two, two and a half months in 2013, the Mets were paying Harvey less than half a mil for that whole season.

Re: The DFAed Knight

Hopefully he won't 'blow' through that $11 million too quickly.

The several fantasy blurbs I read the last day or two is that someone will take

him on but no one seems in much of a hurry.
