Even with his shit 2019, he's been arguably better than all of Oswalt, Gagnon, Lockett, Flexen, Santiago, Pounders and maybe Familia, Bashlor, Avilan, and the excellently dressed Chris Mazza, too. May not be worth doing backflips over, but he costs relatively nothing and could be a great pickup in an area that severely needs help. It's like something a smart team would do. Good gumdrops indeed.

He's been unlucky in runners scoring, his LOB% is way below norms.

But hecan't control his slider. It's all over the place. His BB% on his slider is up 500% over the last two years.

He had a 1.52 ERA/1.31 WHIP in his two month stint w/the Braves last season [27 games, 23.2 IP] following his July 30th trade from the O's ... which likely proves nothing more than how variable relievers can

be, especially when SSS data is involved.

Is from Freehold NJ and Monmouth U

Sure, you're right on that stuff, but he's still arguably better than at least 6 dudes we've already run out this year, comes on a pro-rated minimum salary, and has a track record of being very good. He may be lost in the woods, but still possesses those skills, if he can get only find them again.

It's not a bad thing at all.. Not like we had a supermarket full of relievers and we plucked Brach out ahead of all others. These were dusty, cob-webbed shelves and he's a fine pickup under those circumstances, IMO.

Sure. not knocking it. Just not sure if we're getting star brites or spice drops.

If his slider has been the problem, and if the ball is different in the second half, as I've been speculating, then this could be potentially great for us.

Apparently Phil Regan is the ‘slider whisperer' as the staff has been throwing more sliders to better effect since he's arrived.

Straight outta Freehold, NJ, which is a nice, small addition to the local-boy-good-vibes thing we've got going here.

That said, bringing another wormkiller with a walk problem (albeit with a 10-plus K/9 FM figure this year) to pitch in front of this defense may mark this as less of a savior-to-rise-from-these-streets move and more of a death trap/suicide rap. Old Man Regan: do your dew.
