That Willie Mays cover is hands down my favorite, but based on the results we're seeing, it looks like he's not advancing to the Final Four.

Willie Mays, the best all-around player in the history of the sport, coming back to New York to finish his career in Mets uniform. Say hey, that's a winner to me.

Truly Amazin' (or Amaysing) moments in Mets lore reflected in each entrant. A year later, both players would be part of teams that would go far.

I went for Doc because of composition. That grey sky blur works against Willie.

But I love that cover and I love Mays and I love him coming home.

Gosh I thought he was ancient and I think he was 40. Yeah old for a player though

Yeah, he's only 41 in that picture. But looks to be in his fifties. Really challenges the idea that "Black don't Crack".

Meanwhile, here's 41 year old Rickey Henderson, looking to be in his early 30's.

He played a lot more games in the sun, I imagine, and between growing up in Alabama and serving in the Army, probably spent a lot more outdoor time off the field.

You look at a picture of a baseball team from the 1920s or thirties, and they all look like fifty-year-olds. A good portion of the players were either coming out of the mines in the north or off the sharecroppers' fields in south. And every game they were allowed to stay in baseball was a day they didn't have to go back to that lifestyle.

Hard-living times.

Let's go easy on calling people who are 40 or even in their 50s "old men."

Lol yeah

I do remember my dad though, who was 45 in 1973, saying Willie moved like he was really aching
