A quick and dirty method I like to use to determine how good a team is is to look at the 6-7-8 holes in the team's batting order, but especially the 6-7 slots. This Mets lineup is very telling. Every team has some really good hitters but only the best teams can stretch the lineup to where the bottom is good.

Geeeez! 4-zippo, top 1st, still just one out, and the next ball the Cubs hit hard will be their first!!!! Throw in the fact that we'll need AT LEAST five runs to win this and have scored just eight over the last 5-1/2 games combined ... and things are not looking good for the home team.

The SS reverted back to early season form and the LF showed why he's not a LF. Meanwhile, Noah came up small. At least Ramos extended his streak. Maybe Joel Sherman will stop the "Mickey might win Manager of the Year" crap and BVW can quietly start vetting Gerardi.

Still showing heart. The DP didn't end it. Conforto's subsequent grounder to second finished it off. I think, as a manager, my signature strategy would be to do everything I could to avoid double-plays.

Two ABs could have potentially opened up this game. Ramos's 1-out 1st inning AB where he barely beat out the DP - a run scored by the big inning was killed and JD's AB w/1st & 2nd and no outs in the 6th where he was nipped on the DP relay by about seven strides. Conforto then followed with a ground out. Either or both of those gets stuffed into a gap somewhere and it's a whole 'nother ball game (and if the Queen had balls ... )

This game -- barring a comeback -- will be the fourth time in this five-game losing streak where we've out-hit the opposition. It'll also be just the second time that we've scored more than two runs, but each time we've had our worst pitching outings on those days (5-9 in the middle game vs Braves) But the tying run is now at the plate ... so who knows.

It could be. It's funny to be waking up the morning after a 10-7 loss and feel like the offense let you down, but getting the leadoff runner or more on every inning but scoring only one run in the last four was some hurting execution. Not ha-ha funny.
