You just know this is going to be one of those nights where Jacob pitches magnificently and has nothing to show for it.

Re: IGT 09/03 - Metropolitans at Nationals

They have a good team with some of the best young players in the league but the attendance is near the bottom of the game:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/the-nationals-have-been-fun-for-months-now-but-you-wouldnt-know-it-by-looking-at-the-stands/2019/09/02/66ac9f02-cdab-11e9-8c1c-7c8ee785b855_story.html

Their fans are whining about the number of Mets fans who were there yesterday. Too bad.

They're lucky they're not Marlins fans. Ever been to a Mets game at Marlins Stadium? I've been to plenty. I'd bet anything that the ratio of Mets to Marlins fans at a Mets game in Miami is two or maybe three or even four times higher than the ratio of Mets to Nats fans at a DC game. I've never seen anything like it.

Conforto has good numbers against Scherzer but not many do (Adrian Gonzalez does!):

http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_/id/28976/max-scherzer

Cano with only 3 hits but 2 bombs (including Opening Day).

deGrom and Scherzer duel but deGrom gives up a walk and then a HR to Rendon in the 7th, so it's 2-0 WSH going into the 9th (I debate leaving) but Scherzer is replaced (so I stay). With two outs (I again debate leaving but don't)... Rajai pinch-hits and walks, McNeil singles, Alonso hits a 3-run homerun (I go out of my mind). Diaz pitches a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th and I ride the Metro home, smiling all the way.

I confess you had me. I thought, "I could have sworn it was a night game. Why are they playing a day game on a Tuesday?" I was happy with the result, but sad I had missed it. Then I looked at the MLB ap to see a video of the Alonso homer.....and saw a 7:05 start.

Yup, eight.

Alsonso: 1st pitch single to RF

Conforto: 1st pitch single to RF

Ramos: 1st pitch RBI double to LF

Nimmo: RBI Sac Fly to CF on 1-2 count

Panik: 1st pitch 2R-HR to RCF

I'll confess that I was already thinking of the 'N' word for this game as the 4th inning opened, and was certainly viewing the 1-0 deficit as insurmountable (as per usual w/JdG on the mound).

the problem here is sucktard Cano. if he gets back into the lineup its going to hurt the Mets everywhere.

Time to shake off Mickey. He takes out starting pitchers that are cruising with low pitch counts. He leaves starters in that don't have their best and. Now he is saving relievers for games they likely will not pitch anyway.

I had no problem pulling Lugo after they built the big lead and especially with the extra-long time between innings.

A position player should be able to protect a six run lead with 3 outs to go.

Hell, trade for Russell Martin and use him (4 outings this year, 4 scoreless innings, 2 Hits, 2 K, 0 BB).

For Diaz that's now 13 HRs allowed in 51.1 IP (nearly 2.3 per 9 IP)

That's in contrast to 5 in 73.1 last season (0.6) or 20 allowed for his career prior to this year across 191 innings (0.9)

I know 2019 is the year of the HR but to triple or quadruple your rate?!?!?!??

The only move I thought wonky tonight was PH'ing Nido now that there are extra bodies on the bench ... but even that one oddly worked out for us.

My bad. And, at the time, planning for two innings from Lugo was the logical move.

But circumstances changed and it would be a dumb move to stick w/Lugo simply because you changed the lineup in anticipation of needing him for two.

As I said above, it was the length of the layoff as well as the lead which had me OK with pulling him.

There's simply no defense (or plan) against 4 different pitchers allowing 7 runs on 7 hits before getting three outs. Hell, they couldn't even get two!!
