TWiB Notes -- Sept 9-15

So the Twins are looking like they're headed for an AL Central title. The Indians were charging for a while but Mini soda now holds a 5 game lead and, unlike ALC winners in some years, are on pace for a

solid 100 win season and the right to think that maybe, just maybe mind you, they could put up a challenge to the Yanx or Astros.

So this past week has seen RHP Michael Pineda draw a 60-game suspension for PED use (masking agent apparently - but at least no pine tar suspension on top of it) and now OF (and former 1/1 draft pick)

Byron Buxton is having shoulder surgery and is gone for the remainder of the season and maybe early next year.

iow, early 1st round exit once again.

Re: TWiB Notes -- Sept 9-15

Phils win; Nats lose; Brewers win

Cubs just getting started out west (SD) but are already up 2-0; StL losing in Denver 2-1 in the 6th

And you may already know that the DBacks lost

Oh, and the Dodgers clinched the West tonight.

Over in the AL:

the Yanx lost in a walk-off to the worst team in the majors this year (Detroit who have already lost 100) and in a game where they hit six HRs. 12-11 was your (all too typical) 2019 final.

And finally Houston, who are coming off wins of 21-1 (SEA) and 15-0 (OAK) are tonight getting thumped by Oakland 20-5 and that game is still early in the 3rd quarter

Re: TWiB Notes -- Sept 9-15

Lots of things going right for Houston this year but not so much lately for lefty Wade Miley.

Prior to two starts ago he was rolling along with a 13-4 record and a 3.06 ERA over 28 starts, but then came this past week: his previous start vs Seattle and then last night vs Oakland (both in Houston):

12 ER on 12 Hits, 2 BB, 0 K in a combined 1/3 of an inning!!!. [15 batters faced/One retired]

He amazingly only lost one of those games as the ridiculous Astros bats came back to win the Mariners game despite being down 7-Zip at one point. Last night (21-7 OAK) he was not so lucky.

Those two outings jumped his season ERA nearly 3/4 of a Run per Game to 3.74 ... that's tough to do this late in the year.
