Hey, Nineteen: René Rivera

Hi, I'm René Rivera, veteran AAAA catcher who has discovered a home run stroke late in his career.

I was DH-ing tonight in Syracuse and I just got pulled from the game. What's next for me?

A suspension, as soon as they get me to pee in a sanctioned receptacle

In the starting lineup today, Rene Rivera's exile from Metsdom lasts 336 regular-season days, 23rd-longest among Recidivist Mets, of whom Rivera becomes the 51st.

I dunno. Power was never his problem. If I remember correctly, his problem was that he couldn't hit a major league curve. So maybe he just succeeds in leagues where the curves are AAA-level.

My favorite backup catcher of the last decade. Everyone should have one. But I'm not expecting much from him beyond the ability to handle the pitching staff.

Back-up catcher prototype: Low BA, Good defensively, At least one pitcher on the staff prefers him, Squat body, Can't run for shit, Lotsa Ks, Occasional Power

Some factory somewhere is churning one of those models out at the rate of a couple per year.
