Ed Hearn Trivia

=‘seawolf17']Gary caught every inning of every game, and they couldn't even find Ed a single spot? Oof. I don't know how I never realized that.

Inspired by Seawolf's observation: who are the 17 unfortunate Mets who were active on postseason rosters but never played in a postseason game for the Mets?

Degree of difficulty: high. Accordingly, additional hints include:

-As noted by Batmags, this happened to at least one player in more than one postseason.

-Everyone on the 99 and 00 rosters got in a game.

-It happened to at least one player all of the other times the Mets made the postseason.

-Yes, the players on the 2016 wild card game roster that didn't play technically count.

Re: Ed Hearn Trivia

Didn't the Mets have someone on the roster who would have made his MLB debut in the 2015 World Series, but didn't get into a game? I remember the Royals had someone who did -- Mondesi -- but I thought the Mets had someone who potentially could have -- an infielder?

Was it Matt Reynolds?

Not his MLB debut, but the guy you're looking for is Matt Reynolds.

Elster didn't get any hits in ‘86, but he did play (and also in ‘88).

Reynolds was added to the NLCS roster after the illegal slide, vicious assault, and profoundly erroneous officiating debacle in the division series in which Ruben Tejada's leg was broken. He didn't play but it would have been his ML debut if he had. He was removed from the roster in favor of Juan Uribe for the World Series.

Goeddel was not on the wild card game roster in ‘16, but he did pitch in the division series in ‘15.

Anderson Hernandez made it into a couple of LCS games in 2006; he ran for LoDuca as the winning run in the bottom of the ninth of Game 7.

There are 5 players left on the board from the 2016 Wild Card game roster...but another 2 players left from elsewhere.

I'm guessing he was on the DL for the WC game?

Okay so lets start with whom probably would have started Game 1 of the NLDS, tonight's starter Jacob deGrom

Re: Ed Hearn Trivia

Yes to Salas.

Neither Matz nor DeGrom was on the roster for the Wild card game in ‘16. But keep in mind the quiz is only looking for players who never made it into a postseason game. DeGrom started 4 games in the ‘15 postseason.

I think you're misinterpreting the question. It's not who did not play at all in a given postseason year, it's who was on a roster in any postseason and never appeared in a game. So, deGrom does not apply because although he did not appear in the 2016 postseason, he did play in 2015.

Re: Ed Hearn Trivia

De Aza occurred to me yesterday (one of those rare Exactly One Season Mets w/o DL or other detours) but got obscured when I started focusing on relief pitchers. McClure came to me as if in a vision this morning. Like Niemann, he was the superfluous lefty specialist Davey didn't find all that special.

Re: Ed Hearn Trivia

De Aza occurred to me. But conflating him with Chris Young, I convinced myself that the Mets shed him before the post-season.

There's no excuse for me not getting Bob McClure. My doctoral dissertation was on the 1978 Brewers.
