Hey so I was away for 2 weeks, saw nothing but scores and boxscores and stuff.

Good news every morning for about a week then nothing but shit news.

Can someone give me a quick recap of what the hell went wrong with the Atlanta and Chicago series? Seems hard to believe we managed to piss away so much momentum so quickly.

How did it affect the whole give up/not give up question?

Typical stuff. Syndergaard giving up 10 runs in 3 innings, for instance.

It was basically a team-wide 6-game brain and performance fart, sandwiched between a sweep of the Indians and 3 of 4 from the Phils and Nats.

This team, I tells ya, it can drive you nuts.

They basically stopped hitting, scoring 1, 1, 2, 1 in four of the six (ATL & CHC) games, often against struggling hurlers.

Then even when they did hit they stopped clutch-hitting so the losing streak came despite out-hitting the other side in half of the six games.

Pitching was good but had bad timing; they held the opposition to 5-or-fewer in four of the games, but the games where the Mets managed to score 5 & 7 were the ones where they allowed 9 & 11

Also got out-HR'd by a bunch, particularly by the Cubs.

which is the bad news? ;-)

Thor didn't help, but there was some offensive malaise, and some bad luck, outhitting teams but not bunching them, or only bunching them with 2 outs already.

It's concerning.

Playoff bound teams don't lose 6 in a row to contenders in late August no matter what the circumstances.

They wore those awful uniforms, which is almost as bad as leaving the country during a playoff race.
