Don't let the door hit ya ...

Red Sox to team President Dave Dombrowski:

"Hey thanks for the three straight playoff seasons including last year's World Series. But we're not going to win it this year and, besides, Sunday night's loss makes us 5-13 vs the Yanx this year, so

... You're Fired!!"

DD was hired starting with the 2016 season. This was the fourth season of his five year contract.

The team was operating with no official GM. A trio of assistants will run the team for the present.

He leaves the Red Sox behind with huge salary obligations and a dearth of prospects in the farm system. Which is not dissimilar to how he left the Tigers.

I'd still take his results though.

That's the thing, it's not like the BoSox were unfamiliar with his M.O. or unwilling to meet his spending commitments.

Let no one say that Boston doesn't know how to deflect a potentially negative story such as Dombrowski's firing: Papi returned tonight to throw out the first pitch.

Dave who?

That's true about the Tigers. The thing that's a little different is that he had an elderly owner who desperately wanted a World Series championship and was pretty much given an open checkbook to get it done. Got them there twice, but couldn't get it done.
