My Korean isn't so hot. So I popped it into Google Translate. I figured it would be more or less similar to what was written in English. It was not!

Hi. Ryu Hyun-jin and fans of New York Mets

I am Young Choi and I work at New York Mets.

This Saturday, September 14th, Ryu will host the 2019 Korea Night at Citi Field event along with Ryu Hyun-jin and Jacob Digrom.

Koreans and baseball fans will leave more than 20% discount tickets and official links to participate in the event.

So, I get that Google Translate may not be perfect, but so...many....questions...

Is this email really addressed to Ryu? Why would he get this email if, in fact, he is hosting this event? Is a Los Angeles Dodger really hosting an event at Citifield? Why wouldn't they put the 20% off in both languages? Do they mean to exclude Korean Americans who can't read Korean? What if I'm both Korean and a baseball fan. Do I get 40% off?

Re: I bet you guys didn't get this email

Considering email marketing is one of my main responsibilities, I'm kind of fascinated that the Mets have an ethnicity/race field in their CRM somewhere.

I received an email about a concert at Citi Field 11 months from now, but no, not this one.

Re: I bet you guys didn't get this email

I like that there is a Korea Night. It seems like they historically would give the Euro-New Yorkers nights specific to their own national culture. Irish Night and Italian Night. But the less-white cultures got more demographically broad nights, like Asian American Night and Hispanic-American Night.

And when they'd be more nation-specific, like with Pakastani Night, it would be a promoted directly to that community, but not appear on the promotional schedule.

Features for Korea Night:
•
Kimchi for everybody.

 •
First pitch thrown out but offputting young K-Pop teenage singing sensation whose cuteness is vaguely synthetic/computer generated.

 •
John Cho performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Aegukga" back to back.

 •
Select members of the M*A*S*H* cast butchering "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the stretch.

 •
"And we have Dae-Sung Koo chatting with us in the booth!"
 •
I recall something of a standing group sales appointment at Shea that included ThunderStix with Korean characters printed on them whenever Jae Seo started.
