54 is a nice baseball number as it translates into one HR for every three games on the sked. Or we can see if he, unlike Sammy Hagar, can drive 55.

54 would tie, among others, Ralph Kiner, Jose Bautista and the first OMG season of Babe Ruth's. 55 would be unique; nobody has ever totaled a Hagar's worth for a season. The only other player to have belted exactly 53 is Chris Davis. Not the all-or-nothing template one wishes Pete to model himself on.

Syndergaard will follow Matz, just as he did on the final weekend of 2018. Matz was a sidebar to history last year, too, starting David Wright's final game, which went on forever (though if that was true, it would still be going). Mike Soroka getting his work in for the Braves.

I'm watching in Milwaukee, glad I can get the game on MLB tv. Shadows look kinda cool on the screen. Likely Frazier's final game. Hope he goes out with a bang and not getting nailed at the plate like that. Who else do you thing we'll say "good bye" to today. Mickey, likely. Visited Miller Park to get photos of the statues and things. Team shop had all kinds of postseason stuff. Grrrr. They did have a sweet Pilots low-profile throwback cap. But I can't bring myself to pay $40 for a cap.

Good discussion in the booth. A lot of managers will be exiting today, but Gary noting few general managers will get the boot despite having more control than ever. They're saying many managers are figureheads with the front office calling the shots. Started by noting Maddon has been with the Cubs five years and took the team to the postseason four of those years -- and still got axed.

That's a great under-explored topic: the best, say, 10 regular-season games in Citi Field history - eg. No-hitter; Sunday night sweep over Nationals in 2015; Cabrera walk-off homer in 2016.



Two good entries this year: Comeback against Nats (Frazier taking Doolittle deep), and closing day.
