I like this better than the "Joes only" poll.

Including what I think to be are realistic options but leaving out Maddon since he seems destined for Anaheim.

In guessing McEwing, because he will be the cheapest.

Edgardo Alfonzo, please. Where's the "other" button?

Re: Managerial poll

Girardi, Showalter and Baker will want more say in what goes on than the

baseball-genius Wilpons will be willing to surrender.

What the hell, pencil me in for Edgardo.

Well, the cheapest was to stick with Mick.

Beltran's not a realistic option?

Ditto for Rojas.

And I am still not counting Maddon out, though I admit he is not very likely.

Fonzie, if I'm not mistaken, has experience limited to a terrible team in Brooklyn

Re: Managerial poll

Help me understand the support for Giardi. Didn't he have a rep as a wound-too-tight, one-blown-save-away-from-a-stroke kind of guy in the Bronx? I saw him mentioned as an option for the Cubs, but I otherwise don't see a lot of interest out there for him, especially compared to Maddon.

What am I missing?

Tracky makes it sound like they are taking a hard look at Beltran, but I don't see how they give it to a guy with no managerial experience again.

Re: Managerial poll

Girardi's 'tightness' (pressure?, intensity?) is probably more a long term problem than a short one, something that wears a team/media down over time. And he did last 10 years in the Bronx following his

one year stint for a goofy owner in Miami where he got canned after winning Manager of the Year (for whatever that's worth).

Showalter is a different kind of guy from Girardi but carries a similar type of rep where his voice starts to wear thin after a while as guys get tired of hearing him, but it's not like he was getting bounced

early either: four, three, four, and nine seasons at each of his stops.

But those same traits can also be a short term boost to a club, and if Brodie and the brass think they have a win-now club ...

They did win the NYPL championship this year. So yeah, he's limited to Brooklyn but not all terrible.

Re: Managerial poll

Espada. I know almost nothing about him but four things stand out.

1) He works for AJ Hinch in Houston, and Brodie and Hinch are very tight.

2) He'll come cheaply, so the Wilpons will like him.

3) He's not a name that will be battling for control of the headlines like Girardi or Showalter would.

4) He has no Yankee history like the two above.

But I'm not making the decisions. They'll probably go with a 'safe' choice like Girardi and regret it.

You mean other than his stint as Brian Cashman's Special Assistant and the major league team's infield/third base coach?
