Re: Fuck Off! (Split from WHEELS DOWN)

The birthday threads were fun while they lasted but due to lack of

interest I move we retire the tradition going forward into the off-season.

Re: Fuck Off! (Split from WHEELS DOWN)

If this motion needs a second, I so provide. I believe birthdays are a personal issue and prefer to keep mine private and celebrated only with family and close friends - one of those close friends will be a well-aged bottle of red wine. When I was still in the workforce, I completely wore out on the office mandatory birthday "celebrations" and was relieved every time my birthday fell on a weekend. I don't consider my birthday forgotten or, even better, ignored, but instead I consider it my privacy being respected. There is so little respect these days for personal wishes. If you need your birthday feted, throw your own party instead of waiting for someone else to ignite the candles.

Re: Fuck Off! (Split from WHEELS DOWN)

I've "hidden" my date of birth on Facebook because I don't want people feeling they have to send me birthday wishes. My birthday is just one of 365 (or sometimes 366) days in the year and has no special meaning to me.

Re: Fuck Off! (Split from WHEELS DOWN)

My birthday is March 25th. You can contact me privately to ask where to send cases of beer.

It doesn't really happen with the young kids right now, but I'm an "any excuse for a celebration" guy. It's my birthday, hey you all want to go out to that new restaurant? To that new bar? Come over and try this new beer I made/bought?

But I don't necessarily need rote greetings on social media, but would be happy to hear about any weird/fun celebrations you have. Cake photos are neat. etc.

I have a post-apocalyptic vision of the world continuing without people and until everything degrades there are just bots on Facebook wishing each other happy birthday, retweeting memes, etc. I mean, I get a birthday email from my AllState agent. I used him for Renter's insurance in the apartment I moved out of 6 years ago. I lived in that apartment for 5 years and even the last year I was getting a photo Christmas card from a family addressed to previous tenants. Except the first year where I assume there was a forward set up (USPS only allows 6 months or something)

Re: Fuck Off! (Split from WHEELS DOWN)

I like birthdays. I wrote a lot of stories about people who don't get to have their next birthday. I think it's a day to celebrate a person.

But will support any decision you make. It's your forum.
