LTA: Yasmani Grandal

Grandal opted out with the Brewers. He had another good year. Fangraphs media projection is 3/48.

Ramos, the second best choice last offseason, did not have so good a year, and isn't nearly as good defensively, something the Mets clearly need.

I'd give him the same deal. convert the 4th into an option year given the year older or something. Will more teams be in? maybe, but this is a really good fit for the Mets.

The rumors and allusions to Ramos being a bad guy to pitch to are going to hurt his trade value, but taking the top guy off the board will help.

I'm okay with Grandal too. I think he fills a need. I like Ramos, and he hits and gets on base and doesn't strike out, but Grandal is appreciably better.

It's too bad they were too fucking cheap to get JT Realmuto. But whaddya expect? They won't even splurge for a manager and managers today, the top managers, could be had at bargain basement prices.

Helps in so many ways. But I would guess catcher is down the list of priorities, behind #2 starter, and bullpen help.

Getting Realmuto was not realistic, the cost, the PLAYER cost was almost definitely too high.

And Carlos Beltran is probably better than all those sham 'top' managers. Fuck Girardi, useless bastard.

20 years of observing him? An understanding of how baseball works, how little managers matter, and how skewed the perception of them is?

He has no idea. None of us do.

I mean, Brodie has an idea. Omar too. Their ability to work with the manager is probably priority #1 in choosing a manager. so like, the guy they chose is probably fine.

Yes and yes. I'd be all in on a starter, and the pen can't be ignored, but upgrading defense in the outfield and at catcher (without killing the offense) would be nice too. A lot would depend on the trade market for Ramos. His game has weaknesses but he was far from terrible, and I don't think the Mets can afford to simply dump him or pay him $10M to be a reserve. Three and sixty would strike me as fair for Grandal, but I would not be inclined to go further for a catcher who just turned 31.
