He provided a good example of Bing Devine's active GM-ing in BD's short tenure assembling the core of the '69 Mets. Bought in May from the Orioles, hit .348 mainly as pinch hitter/reserve 1B/3B, flipped after the season for Art Shamsky.



Traded a lot but liked by teammates everywhere he went, according to his SABR bio and Jim Palmer

Bob won us a game on an 11th-inning homer on August 8, 1967. His shirt presumably stayed on.

I can't find an obituary online anywhere. A different Bob W. Johnson died last week, but this is definitely not our guy:
