Brookyln Nets 2019

I pulled for the Nets way back with the Teaneck Armory and 60's ABA.My earliest Nets idols were Levern Tart and Sonny Dove. I stuck by the Nets through the move to Newark but turned my back after the move to Barclays for evermore. Not.

I started watching last year and had great fun. I would be happy to nominate Kenny Atkinson for Coach of the year. The team had more chemistry than talent and to a degree it worked. Within their rotation Jared Dudley and Ed Davis and some other well worn players had terrific years.

Joe Harris won the 3. My mom became a fan of "The Fro" and "DRuss."

Nets basically traded D'Angelo Russell for Kyrie Irving and 2020 Kevin Durant. In 2019 the pieces just seemed to work. This year I can see Irving calling out teammates and such.

I am hoping for the best. There is still plenty of talent. I liked DeAndre Jordan better as a Knick. He reminds me of an older out of shape Dominic Smith.

Lets go Nets!

Amen!

But they are going to have to find somebody who can make a defensive stop if they are going to have a good year. They can't continue to just try to outscore their opponents.

I had no idea F C A wasn't recorded solely in northern Calinfornia. But I was

I know two places on Long Island and how to get there. J B S P and R M S P.

I could find The Mossaleum, but would have to refresh my map memory first.

Not here, no.

It's an insider (and old-timer) reference to a previous site many moons ago where an overzealous moderator was taken to admonishing those who'd occasionally stray into side (read: non-Met) conversations.

One such incident (probably more than one now that I think about it) involved several of us currently here and a discussion of FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE

At least some of the tracks on FCA were recorded there, yes. I was under the impression that The Who's first US show was there too, from an old Guitar World article, but this appears to not be the case. They did play there in 1967.

About halfway out and towards the northern shore in western Suffolk County near to where several of us here grew up and/or currently live (Fairy, Mex17, Grimm, FK, JCL, probably others).

The Commack Arena was a barn of a building (seated maybe 6K?) where the pre-L.I. Coluseum (and pre-Dr. J) Nets played for a few years as well as the home of the (Eastern League?) Long

Island Ducks hockey team whose player/coach, John Brophy, was largely seen as the model for Paul Newman's character in SLAPSHOT

When there were no games you could go ice skating there. After all those teams left it became a Flea Market.

I'm not a mod, but why don't you ever talk about concerts at MSG in the thread about that other team in town?

There have been countless threads about (rock)music on the CPF, but only this one about the Nets.

The whole point here was that threads go where they go and that we shouldn't have strict rules to keep them from doing so - especially since some of us came from a board where there were strict rules

against doing so. And, worse than that, there were inconsistently applied prohibitions against doing so which is what happens whenever control gets far too top heavy.

This particular little side-jig got started off of my little foot-noted joke -- essentially a shout-out to KC who, IIRC, was the one fingered as the culprit and the recipient of a sternly worded warning as the result

of our long-ago 'non-approved' discussion of Frampton -- and then kept alive by a question from the new guy here about whether this was actually true [answer: yes, but not here and not recently].

Various responses then followed, both about Frampton and about Commack, but also about the one-time arena which itself had some NY Net history to it so it's not like this was totally off the mark anyway.

Bottom line: it's a day and a half diversion (unless it keeps going of course) in a thread where it's, what?, four games into a basketball season which I believe takes longer than a solar revolution by Jupiter so

there's plenty of time to get back to serious Nets talk (assuming that's not a contradiction in terms) if there is indeed enough interest to sustain it. IIRC previous attempts at a sustained Nets threads have

pretty much died on the vine [because: Nets] but that's no reason not to try again as they might be a good team this year and, even if not, Kyrie Irving's whining alone might be worth chatting about*. And

even if you merely wind up talking to yourself (like half of my threads are me talking to myself) it's something that can be cathartic.

So, as they said in STRIPES: Lighten up Francis

We're talking about the Brooklyn Nets as the team I root for. As folks here have mentioned, they are the underdog in the City, and I have always rooted for the underdog (new teams, new leagues) against the establishment. I find it curious that this is a Mets place, and we have always been treated like second class citizens by fans of the MFYs. They have walked in my shoes. Why act like MFY fans and denigrate my team?

Interesting. Presumably my general practice of trash-talk avoidance has to do with not having strong feelings about any team in any sport - I could be the poster child of rooting for laundry since the players come and go with whirlwind-like regularity. This might stem from my nomadic life and that one team is pretty much like another over time. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose, sometimes it rains. Let's put it down to my not having the energy to take it personally, likely another result of moving too often to feel rooted to a specific team.

That said, it genuinely pleases me when the MFY fail. No matter where I have lived, the MFY have been the mortal enemy. Not the players as such but the team as a concept. When a person really has no discernible home base and must adopt the present locals as the "home" team, it's hard to bond too tightly.

Kenny Atkinson sat through the second half with his arms folded without the frown. He just knew they didn't have a run in them on this night.

Might be the layoff but that was fugly all around

I'd like to move up the timetable for Kyrie. I'd think he could be ready in seven days or so if he was serious about it.

I guess I'm naive, but I'm still stunned there's a betting market for some-

thing as obscure as an over/under on an individual basketball player stats.

These 4th quarter collapses are maddening.

Kyrie, out 2 months back 2 games was bitching that the Nets need more "pieces." This guy could give aspirin a headache

Jarrett Allen looked terrific last night. Kenny put him on Ben Simmons. Ben was stymied as he cant make an 18 footer.

Everything clicked for 3 quarters then blah

I'd like to blame it on Timothe Luwawu-Cabarot but I can't

The signs were all there.

Irving just seems to spend so much of his time being miserable and I don't think any change of scenery or hand-picked teammates* are going to change that.

Doesn't help when the recent track record shows his teams to be better on the days he sits out as compared to those when he actually plays.

* especially if the hand-picked teammate is Kevin Durant who himself seems to be miserable much of the time.

Phew! They needed that.

Why is Joe Harris starting? He really doesn't stack up with any opponent he faces defensively and, while a very good shooter, is inconsistent. I think he should be coming off the bench to give a quick spark. The team made their great run last year when Kurucs started.

Kyrie off to see a second specialist for his shoulder. Have to believe surgery is next. What an ill fated signing

Tjis gives me a flashback to when baseball handled pitchers this way before surgery was commonplace/ routine. A pitcher complained of arm problems. The team doctors would tell him to rest a while. Mid year, the pitcher would return and say there was still pain. So they would tell him to rest it until the next spring. The next year, if there was still pain, the pitcher wold be sent to a famous "specialist" who would operate. The pitcher and team would lose another full year. Today, with shoulder surgery more commonplace, it is done early.

This should have been the case with Kyrie. Now, when Durant is back next year, Kyrie may still be recovering from his operation.
