The 5G Thread

Anyone actually have 5G yet? Seems like they've been going on and on

about it for half a decade and my last phone (2 models ago now) boasted

the selling point that it will be 5G compatible when available.

Everything's fast enough for me right now and I'm sure the new wave of

technology when it his will also hit the wallet in the long run but just curious

if anyone knows anything.

It's one more than 4G, I think. And supposedly it interferes with weather satellites somehow.

yeah, that's concerning. apparently something about how the satellites detect water. the wavelengths are really close and certain bleedover could cause detection problems.

I'm not dying for more speed at the moment, but as I understand it it should be more reliable because the web of transmitters (conflicting with the weather!) are tighter or something?

And of course, more speed available means people will develop apps/tech that uses more power and suddenly you'll need it.

Re: The 5G Thread

My phone hits its 2-year mark in a few weeks and I hope to hang onto it for at least 6 more months before caving for a new one. It is 4G and as has been said, I am not aching for more speed. I'd love a stronger battery over more speed. It's an LG6, my third LG, so I suspect I'll stick to the brand until they disappoint me, as Samsung did.

Re: The 5G Thread

My understanding is that 5g isn't compatible enough with previous Gs. But the use case is business: automation , processing massive data for AI so it'll get there. I saw a demo of a robot arm controlled by 5G and it was literally as fast as a brain, moving the instant the button was pushed
